Anyone make an Eisbock in Ontario?

Post by Cass »

I used to look forward to the Aventinus Eisbock which would usually get released around the holiday time, but don't think it has for a little while.

It made me think - does anyone in Ontario make an eisbock?

A quick Google search reveals one at Oast House, but it's unclear if its coming or if it's passed.

I also found an article on Bar Towel which it looks like I wrote but don't recall doing so :D

Ah, memories of Niagara Falls Eisbock. It's been a long time.

Certainly few and far between. I remember the Norseman from Bush Pilot Brewing made a bit of a splash when it first came out, but it looks like they're no longer around; in fact that was 2014. Wow. As far as Untappd goes, the only other eisbock not mentioned here already was from Muskoka's Moonlight Kettle series in 2017.

Very much an underrepresented style.

Just searched in Ontario on Untappd (only possible on mobile, and the process takes exactly 14 clicks...fix it, guys!) and found a very short list. Also, Paris doesn't even show up, probably because of the ratings threshold.

So yeah, Untappd blows goats, but here's what I could find:

Expedition Brewing: https://untappd.com/b/expedition-brewin ... ck/4101949
Paris: https://untappd.com/b/the-paris-beer-co ... te/4327771
Jobsite: https://untappd.com/b/jobsite-brewing-c ... er/4905506
Gan: https://untappd.com/b/gan-brewing-compa ... ock/781093
Taps: https://untappd.com/b/taps-brewhouse-sp ... ock/117401
Oast House: https://untappd.com/b/niagara-oast-hous ... es/1436399
Bush Pilot: https://untappd.com/b/bush-pilot-brewin ... man/810596
Muskoka: https://untappd.com/b/muskoka-brewery-s ... 17/1942983
Kichesippi: https://untappd.com/b/kichesippi-beer-c ... 20/3814924

Most were one-offs and aren't available. But, looking at the reviews, I'd seriously consider doing an order from Paris Beer!

Thanks for that research!

Yeah, doesn’t look like too many regularly available. Paris brew is about 45 mins away, maybe time for a road trip!

Then you can hear it again... the food is fantastic.

Beer is good to very good. Nothing outstanding, nothing poor.
