Amsterdam - Calm before the Storm?

Post by El Pinguino »

Anyone heard if they are doing a special night again before the release of Double Tempest?
I haven't even heard anything about Double Tempest this year.

Last year's annoucement was dated November the first. I have not been by the Brewhouse to ask.

The last Bourbon County Stout event was in 2022. Novembers will be even less fun if we lose Calm Before the Storm. Has anyone been by the retail store to see if Double Tempest 2024 is available yet?

Post on reddit referenced a retail employee a few weeks ago starting its in barrels, but will be late this year. Lots of discussion about new ownership changing focus away from the one off specialty brews.

Forget the Double, I'd just love to have the regular Tempest back. I even put up with buying the mix-packs a few years back to get my hands on it. I don't drink a lot of high ABV beers anymore, but OG Tempest is still a favourite.

Also I just noticed they're selling Faxe on the Amsterdam website now lol. So yea, I wouldn't be surprised if the specialty brews largely disappear.

Ya, the regular tempest is a great no-adjunct, no-nonsense stout. I miss it too.

Well, without this or Goose Island, my lack of stout buying in November means...I'll buy a ticket to Indie Ale House's Stout Night in December!

No special event this year...but Double Tempest is out now!

I've got one ready to try later tonight.

Ramp myself up for Indie's Stout Night on Saturday, lol.

Oddly I could not get a glass of Double Tempest at the Brewhouse as it was only available for takeaway. They did have an Raglan Road Irish stout and Half City coffee stout on tap, which placated me.

Relative to other comparable stouts I've had recently, the Double Tempest was quite good.
It's not exactly boozy, big and bold, but has some nice flavour depth. Better than Kentucky Bastard or Zombie Apocalypse, IMO.
