Hi all.
I'm going to be in the Fort Myers area for a week coming up and was wondering if anyone knew of any notable beer or beer establishments in the area.
From what little research I've done Florida seems to be somewhat of a beer wasteland, but there's always a chance for a few hidden gems.
The only lead I found was Ybor Brewing Company in Tampa which I may drop by. Any other suggestions??
Looking for the original Bar Towel blog? You can find it at www.thebartowel.com.

Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

Florida Road Trip
Cheers Dude!
I was in Tampa three years ago. YBOR city is your best bet. Don't count on great beer though. Mainstream is going to be your worst nightmare. Although there is Bud Ice.
Note: I was in Tampa for only two days. Conduct an engine search for brew pubs or pubs in Florida. Or call the Tourism office of Florida.

Try this: go to http://www.beeradvocate.com and select the Beer Fly option. Select the state of Florida, and see if the results are of any help.
You can also post your question in the forum area. There are many Floridians who contribute; perhaps they can help you out.
Good luck with the trip.

Thanks for the replies! I'm just back from the south (wishing I was still there!)
The beer scene is pretty sad down there, as expected. I was staying with a friend from Canada. When I arrived she was happy to tell me that she had a cold 6-pack of Blue in the fridge to make me feel at home. Gee thanks. Luckilly, I managed to pawn it off to some people by the pool.
I didn't have much access to a car so I didn't make it up to Tampa. The best thing I could find at the local store was Anchor Liberty which managed to tide me over for the week.
The bars around town were another story. Luckilly, most came with "Key West Sunset Ale" which is the only thing on tap resembling good beer in Southern Fla. But, of course, anything is better than Bud.
There was one good place in Fort Myers Beach called Dusseldorf's. Decent selection.
