OK...I know that this has probably been brought up oodles of times before...but, considering that it seems like much of the beers from the previous release are no longer sitting on the shelves...why wait until April to bring out the next batch? Someone at the LCBO must have noticed this! No?
Oh, second topic...should I be interested in any of these beers coming out in the spring release...or must I just wait for the Dogfish Head?

I do agree that the wait between the stouts & porters release and this upcoming release is a little long. Given the fact that the fall & winter releases are fairly close together (September & November/December), and we also get hit with a bunch of gift-packs at Christmas, it might make sense for them to hold the stouts & porters until February in order to space them out more evenly.
Anyway, as far as the beers in the upcoming release go, I've only had the Christoffel Blond, and I quite liked it. Those used to the bastardised North American definition of a "Pilsner" will be pleasantly surprised by this one.
The Holsten Citrus Fusion is reportedly close to being an alcopop, so I'll likely be avoiding it.
I'm a little frightened of the Floris beers after trying their Chocolate a couple of months ago, but I'll probably still give them a shot.
The Mort Subite Framboise has been described to me as a good "beginner's lambic", and the Liefmans Kriekbier is quite well-regarded.
The Berliner Kindl Weisse is one of the unique Berlin Wheat beers that are apparently extremely sour and quite different from the usual German Wheat beers. Being a big fan of traditional wheat beers, I'm looking forward to trying this as well as the more standard Edelweiss Hefetrub.
And I liked the regular Jenlain that we got last year, so I'm also looking forward to the Blonde.
So yeah, personally I think that most of them will be worth trying.

Cass, there's one missing from the list and which the brewer is in fact shipping today from Germany...it is Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel.
As a further teaser, the following of our beers will be part of the Summer release in June....Dogfish Head Raison d'Etre, Samuel Smith's India Ale, Samuel Smith's Organically Produced Lager, Hook Norton Haymaker, St. Peter's Summer Ale, St. Peter's Lemon & Ginger Spiced Ale.

One other comment, the promos all run for 8 weeks but there are really only 5 promos each year which feature new products while the LCBO does toss in the odd promo which features regularly listed products as they'll probably do in March and April. Also, there are the occasional one shot releases such as Wild Irish Rogue which is hitting store shelves as we speak.

Comments/correction:
1) That's Munchner Kindl Weisse, Greg, not Berliner Kindl Weisse. It's a standard hefeweizen (not that that's a bad thing) from the Hofbrauhaus Brewery in Munich.
2) Christoffel Blond is amazing, and I'll be buying a case.
3) Too many alcopops, although the Mort Subite is decent and Liefmans better than decent. Look forward to both of these.
4) I love that they've thrown a dunkel in there. They've remembered that while we love to daydream about drinking light beers in the spring, sometimes it's still cold and rainy. The Ayinger is highly respected and it's been too long for me, so that is great news.
5) Having the Wild Irish as a one-shot to me is better - in the slow season and all by itself I personally will buy more.
6) They should bring back the Schultheiss Berliner Weisse this summer - if you LCBO types are reading this just take my word. Or contact me and I'll explain.

D'oh! Thanks, I was cross-checking them with RateBeer to get more info and got them mixed up.On 2003-02-25 10:40, Josh Oakes wrote:

Ah well, I loves me the hefeweizen, so I can't really complain.

Well Bartowellers, I can give you a bit of a scoop on other things in the pipeline and this is a Bartowel exclusive! First time apperances in the Winter promo in November will be Adnams Suffolk Strong Bitter from the UK, Rogue Yellow Snow and Barbar Winter Bok from Belgium....now wait for it....the January 2004 Stouts and Porters promo will include.....................................ta da..Victory Storm King Stout...rated 4.55 on beeradvocate.com and #4 overall in their Top 50 and rated 4.26 on ratebeer.com placing #26 on Beer God's Top 50 and placing #5 in their Top 5 Stouts. We really need the support of people like Bartowellers when it comes to U.S. micros as they are increasingly being passed over by the LCBO due to reasons of slow sales so we hope and trust that when these become available you'll get out there and blow the whole paycheck. I'll let you know about other late 2003 and early 2004 releases in the coming days and weeks.
