So I was in Queen's Quay today and I had a weird experience. For starters, they had a staffer there who was working just the (newly renovated) beer section. To my astonishment, he actually know a thing or two about beer. The guy's name tag said Tim and I hope this is a permanent thing because it was kind of odd. How long have I been calling for the LCBO to have people who know and love the products, especially in the beer section?

Anyway, as as example, I was asking about Christoffel and he explained why it wasn't on the shelves yet, and proceeded to offer alternatives. To my amazement he didn't offer something like Grolsch ("because it's Dutch...") but Liberty Ale and Shakespeare Stout ("because someone who wants Christoffel must love hops"). That's exactly the kind of thing I want from a beer store salesperson - knowing the products that are sold, and recommending based on the experience level of the customer, not based on what country they want or necessarily what style even.

Cheers to this Tim guy, and to the LCBO for getting him on the floor in an area where he can do some good.

Further, he mentioned a couple of other products they were getting in soon - King Pilsner and a braggot from Trafalgar.

Actually, there are a couple of guys at Queen's Quay who take a real interest in the section...shame is, they're both part time workers...Tim is certainly one of them and, even more knowledgeable, is Bill who himself is a homebrewer and who knows more about beer than I do. Unfortunately, you'll only catch these guys 2 or 3 days a week...when they're not there, someone will certainly help you find the big case display of Bavaria, Brazil's gift to the beer world!
