Hi Guys,

I just heard from George from C'est What? that renovations are progressing, they expect to be opening the new section by end of September. This will also mean 16 MORE taps to fill!! They're also planning on showing soccer in the pub, and mentioned that the Mill St.'s Tankhouse Pale Ale will be replacing the Organic Lager sometime in the fall...

I was in the other day for a pint in the afternoon and asked Joan the bartender when it would open, and she replied with a smile "When it's finished!"

Should prove interesting for this years festival of Small Breweries eh? Mmmmm....

Yes, more beer and not as crowded. Looking forward to watching football(soccer) there. Hope they get the England Euro 2004 qualifiers.

Cool news. Can't wait for them to get some more taps.

Here's a question for everybody. They are obviously going to get in TVs, since they are showing soccer. I have no problem with that - I like soccer myself and rooting the teams of my "old family". However, C'est What has always prided itself on being a "local" bar, reflecting local culture. Soccer isn't terribly local - I would say that hockey is. But, does this mean they will show Leafs games? Somehow I doubt it, to avoid being seen as a sports bar. But if they *only* show soccer the TVs will be off lots of the time.

Just a thought to ponder!

Your right that soccer isn't especially local, but it does have strong associations with pubs and beer culture.

Personally, I don't care what they show on the televisions, as long as they have a section of the place that remains free of them. I go to places like C'est What to eat and drink and talk with friends, not to watch sports (or anything else for that matter) on TV.

Greg,

I don't think George is planning on turning C'est What into a sports bar overnight, I wouldn't worry at all about that. I think the expansion is going to create some NEW spaces that will include pool tables & TV's, provide some other options for guests... I'm pretty sure the existing original super-comfy, quiet, down-to-earth places we all know and love will stay pretty much as they are now... It's been that way for some 14 years or so right?

C'est What's new section is now open, for evenings only at the moment.

And I found an article dated November 16th in the Toronto Star about the expansion:
