I acquired this old 1950s fridge, one with the rounded corners and the chrome pull down handle, and will be converting it into a keg fridge. I'll have two taps coming out the front of it and will host two 30 litre kegs of microbrewed beers.

The fridge itself is plain white and really ugly with old stains all over it. So, I'd like to have the fridge painted. Ideally, I would love to have a scene painted on it; a scene that has depth and looks professional.
My vision is one where the fridge looks like a wooden bar and the taps on the fridge are the beer taps on top of the bar. Above the bar would be shelves with beer bottles on them, perhaps some neon bar signs, etc.

The problem is, I'm not artistically inclined and I don't know anyone who is. I also don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to get this done either.

So, if anyone one of you knows someone, like perhaps an aspiring young artist wanting to build a portfolio, please send me a note.

In return, I'm willing to build a website for this person showcasing their artwork and/or will provide constantly flowing beer while the project is underway.

Plan B is to spray paint the entire fridge in a concrete-like look. This is what the Niagara Falls Brewing Company does with their fridges and apparently looks very good.

Alternatively, if you have other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Dan,

You should look at the work of Barfly, a Toronto-based beer fridge seller. They paint all their retro fridges in various colours and they look very cool. Perhaps a visit to the store will give you a couple of ideas.

Thanks for the idea Cass, however I've already spoken to them.

To get their fridges looking the way they do, they get this professional come in and apply a primer first, then put on three coats of their shiny paint... which explains the price they charge for their fridges.

Don't get me wrong, they do a great job and they are doing very well. In fact, several people want to sell them, even give them old fridges and Barfly is turning them away as they don't have the space anymore.

Instead of a shiny solid colour, I was hoping to do something really different with my fridge. I actually just got some of this chalk board paint also. You just spray this stuff on any surface, then you can write on it with chalk. I got the colour black and will reserve a spot on the front of the fridge to write down what beers I currently have on tap.

Imagine the bar scene I'd like to get painted and the chalk board would be behind the bar listing what's currently on tap!?

I can picture it now... Just need someone to bring it to life.

Well, I don't need anyone to paint my fridge anymore. I spray painted it with the concrete look on the front and the sides, and added the black chalk board at the bottom of the fridge where I write down what two beers are currently on tap. For the name of the fridge at the top, which is in chrome, I painted it in a burgundy colour in a design that looks sort of like this: <> which really makes it look retro. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out.

So... what are my first two brews on tap you ask? Well, Ken Woods, President of Black Oak Brewing Company, personally delivered a 30 litre keg of Nut Brown and a 30 litre keg of Pale Ale today, Boxing Day! He even helped me setup the kegs and explained how to use the CO2 and gave me several tips... really nice guy!

My next two kegs might be Niagara Falls Olde Jack and Apple Ale as they've agreed to deliver also. Steam Whistle will deliver as well. I'm still working on KLB.

Anyway, I took a few pictures of the fridge, before, during and after that I'll post on a website soon for you guys to see...

Dan-D-Man, if you are interested, I will deliver too! You can have Scotch Irish Session Ale or Black Irish Porter on draught in 20 litre kegs. They cost $65.00 each, plus $20.00 deposit on the empties. If you are planning a party, I can also deliver a firkin of our Dry Hop real ale to you. I'll lend you the chocks and gravity tap so that it can be dispensed. Please bear in mind that a firkin is 9 gallons(40.9 litres) and that real ale needs to be consummed quickly. I go to Toronto and Hamilton every 2-3 weeks. Let me know if you are interested.
Cheers!

Well Josh... I'm actually having a beer fridge christening party tomorrow, Saturday, December 29th. It'll be sort of a drop in anytime you can all afternoon and evening thing.

If any of you happen to be around the Yonge & Steeles area and want to drop in, come on over. Seriously... I know it may seem odd to invite strangers to my house but I figure any true beer lover is a buddy of mine!

So, if you're interested, send me a private message and I'll give you further details.

Perry... Thanks for your offer to deliver. To be honest, I haven't had the opportunity to sample your beers yet but I will make it a point to try them when I get the chance.
