Cask Days 2022

Post by Cass »

Back in old-school, only at Volo form. Will be there for sure.

https://barvolo.com/pages/events#calend ... 2c85f4b1ef
After a three year absence, our annual Cask Days festival will make its triumphant return to Bar Volo - back to the place where it all began! This year we will scale things down just a bit, but are keen to bring Cask Days back to its former full-scale glory in the years to come.

From Friday, October 21st to Sunday October 23rd Bar Volo will pour 30+ different casks from 30+ different breweries across Ontario. There will be no advance tickets, just come on by. The bar will not be open with our usual food/drink offerings as we'll be dedicated to bringing you as many unique cask ale offerings. Admission will be $10 (glass purchase) and food/drink token system will be in effect.

The final beer list will be posted closer to the event. We are excited to have casks on offer from: Amsterdam, Badlands, Barncat, Beerlab!, Bellwoods, Beyond The Pale, Black Oak, C'est What? Durham, Fairweather, Fine Balance, Godspeed, Granite, Great Lakes, Indie Ale House, Left Field, Matron, Merit, Muddy York, Revel, Rouge River, Short Finger, Sonnen Hill, Third Moon, Tooth & Nail, Town, Volo, West Ave, Willibald + Special Guests!

Definitely great to see it back, albeit in a pared down form. Cask Days was about the only festival I went to anymore, though my favourite years were when Cask Days was held in the Hart House quad. Gorgeous setting and just the right size in my opinion. The latter years at Brickworks became too busy for me.

I liked those Hart House days too. Some of the years at Brickworks were enjoyable, but it was always when I had the 'early access' pass and got in an hour before the masses. But yeah, it did get big and chaotic. Nice to see it back in a smaller form this year.

It's funny to think about Cask Days and its impact on the beer scene. Basically "cask" in relation to Volo and the festival became a shorthand for "rare/unique/weird/barreled" or similar beers, which is what people clamour for. It seems that actual cask beer is pretty rare nowadays....certainly modern brewery taprooms don't do much in the way of cask.

Good mix of classic styles (for me) and weirder stuff (for others, lol).

Looking forward to it!

They specifically tweeted that they will not be accepting old tokens if anyone didn't see. Probably wise given the number that are still out there! :D

A great time, old tokens being disregarded notwithstanding:

Of all the weekends to get obliterated by covid, between this and Godspeed's events. Sorry to have missed it, sounds like it was a great time.
