Old Flame Brewing's new location in Toronto Distillery District

Post by shintriad »

I just happened upon this recently. Nice space and it offers a low-key alternative to some of the other spots nearby.

I'm not too familiar with the brewery (although their beers won a lot of Ontario/Canadian Brewing Awards in the mid-late '10s), but I like that they're producing both traditional and flavoured ambers and darks at relatively normal ABVs. It's also cool that the brewery, whose first location is in tiny Port Perry, has now grown to open its third!

Nice, thanks for the update!

I remember seeing the news about this and thought how it was a bit strange that in all the years since the Distillery opened, there never was another beer-focused place to open up there. I presume that Mill St. had some kind of exclusivity for a while, but I always thought some beer variety would make the district that much more appealing.

I was surprised when I heard the news as Old Flame has seemed to fly under the radar all these years, yet here they are with a splashy Distillery District space. Their kellerbier and dunkel are staples in my fridge, and when I make it up to Port Perry, their Raven black lager is probably my favourite in the province; a real underrated beauty. They make really well done, approachable beers which is probably a big part of their appeal. They should do well in this new space.

I popped in to the Distillery District location recently. I can report that their wet hop beer was tasty and fresh, despite it being a bit past the harvest season. I will have to check out their other brews, when I have time. I don't think they have a kitchen, but it's a good place to drop by, if you are in the area.
