Thought I'd share some updates about Barton Village in Hamilton. I was out and about exploring yesterday and there's some cool new stuff on Barton St.

There's Mosaic, the beer bar that closed and re-opened, supposedly with a slimmed down ownership group. It's got about a dozen or so beers on tap and a pretty classic small bar vibe. It was fairly hopping last night as they had trivia which always seems to be a crowd favourite. But around them there's a few new spots.

Just a hundred or so metres away is Barton Salumeria, which was opened by Eric Muller. Eric used to work in the beer world (Clifford, Cameron's) and recognized me right away. I chatted with him and the story is he started a charcuterie biz during COVID and it was successful, so he opened up a physical space. It's a cute spot, bright and airy with a cozy bar facing the kitchen and a few tables. About 5-6 beers on tap + cans. A really nice little place.

Literally two doors down is Wildcat Tavern, which is new but retro & hipster-y styled. About 5-6 taps including 3 Willbald which was cool. Ballpark style food including hot dogs & nachos. Eclectic decor but you can tell it was done with care.

The guys at Salumeria were also hyping up Maisy's Pearl oyster bar which is also right there and across the street, but didn't make it in there.

Very "micro neighbourhood-y" with the emergence of new spots in very close proximity. One of the guys at Salumeria said that a bit down the street there was a cocktail bar that does Detroit style pizza (Maipai) and a smashburger joint. There's some other places around that aren't bars or restos, such as Dawson's Hot Sauce which I learned about due to their sauce collab with Collective which was very good.

Barton is pretty easy to get to as it runs right by the West Harbour GO station. It's a bit of a less-than-lovely walk as you go by a jail and the hospital campus. But it was still fine and worth it to know about the places out that way. Will be back!
