Wanted to share the first episode of my Quick Beer from Saratoga County, NY. Probably not a destination that tends to be top-of-mind except horse racing fans will likely know it.
It's a picturesque spot of NY state that's east of the rust belt-y cities of Rochester & Syracuse and north of Albany. My sense is that it's become a hotspot for city New Yorkers that want out of the NYC region but still want to stay in the state.
It's got a nice beer scene if you can get out of Saratoga Springs, but this episode just covers the main town. Whitman is quite a nice spot.
Went to some concerts at the Saratoga Performing Arts Centre 2 summers ago.
It was a nice downtown that gave me some Niagara on the Lake vibes. I recall there being a craft beer bar on the main strip and a few breweries as well. It is a very nice destination in the summer.

Hmmm. Makes me think of PEC in Ontario. Did you find things generally expensive?

Yeah, it's definitely NOTL & PEC vibe-y. But Saratoga Springs does have quite a bit going on with a fair amount of restaurants and bars. I'd say the restaurant scene overshadows the beer scene which is a reflection of the visiting clientele. There's even a Euro/Belgian restaurant called Benelux which I would have liked to check out but didn't get a chance.
The beer prices were pretty consistent with other places in the Great Lakes/Northeast region. I think hotels right in Saratoga Springs can run a bit pricey during the peak summer months.

I'm a bit conflicted in posting these up from the U.S., but here's the second episode from Saratoga County. I really enjoyed Dancing Grain and had a great chat with brewer Duffy. A very knowledgeable guy and much of the fun discussion was off-camera, as is usually the case.
