[NOTE: The day after I posted this, I started poking around some older messages that I'd missed in my several months of not reading the forum, and found that this new brewery had already been mentioned a couple of times, so I apologize for being somewhat redundant...]
Hello, all...
My wife Sheryl and I went down to the old Gooderham & Worts Distillery today to check out an outdoor art show. For those who aren't aware, the area is being turned into a big arts, culture & entertainment district with restaurants, galleries and more - including, as we were very happy to find out, an onsite brewery/pub called Mill St. Brewery.
We popped into the building where they are going to be located, and someone wearing a Mill St. t-shirt was filling people in on their plans. They should be up and running in about 6 weeks, and their first offering will be an Organic Lager. They plan to follow this up with three "historic, 19th century style" brews (he wasn't more specific than that), and occassional seasonal/specialty beers. The first of those will be a Coffee Porter to be developed in collaboration with Balzac's Coffee, a roastery and cafe that will also be part of the Distillery complex.
All of the beers will be available at the pub as well as several other restaurants that will be opening at the site, and they will also have a retail outlet to sell bottles. The space will also have a small brewing museum, and in addition to the indoor seating there are plans for a 500 seat patio.
On top of all this, the brochure that we picked up with info about plans for the whole Distillery complex includes mention of a beer festival to be held there next year.
The various shops and services at the site will start opening in September and will continue throughout the fall and winter, with the official opening of the complex taking place next May. For more info, check out http://www.thedistillerydistrict.com
