Just finished brewing a simple SMASH Maris Otter, US-05, and "Experimental Pine Fruit" hop pale ale. Just 4 oz in 15L, but looking forward to seeing what this hop tastes like. Smelled amazing!
Just to be different, I did a mild that came in at 1.030. I was aiming for 1.038, but I messed up the boil loss guestimate and ended up with ~6 gallons instead of 5.5. I did this yesterday, in my detached garage. That was about as cold a brew day as I care to experience.Derek wrote:A big chocolate oatmeal stout at 1.085.
It's going gangbusters on the WY 1098 starter I had ready for it. Glad I set up the blow-off tube.
2 curious questions for youmatt7215 wrote:just mashed in a big imperial stout:
16 lbs 2 row
1 lb black patent
2 lbs chocolate malt
1.5 crystal 40
2 lbs dark munich
3 oz centenial at FWH
3 oz centenial at whirpool
huge cake of S-04
target OG is 1.119
1. oxygen stone to aerate?
2. will you re-oxygenate at 24 hrs?
Did you end up undershooting OG? That doesn't look like enough grain once you take into account the decreased efficiency of larger grain bills. I usually shoot for ~63% when I go that high in OG. 75% around 1.050.matt7215 wrote:just mashed in a big imperial stout:
