I recently received a can of Hockley Valley Gold, a lager from a new micro in..Hockley Valley Ont. It's brewed by Charles Maclean, the "eminence gris" (sorry Tar Bowel)of the Ontario micro-brewery biz.
I have yet to try it, but it is unique already in that they chose to can their beer instead of bottling it. Perhaps they should have chosen a gold coloured can for their initial offering, as it is called "Gold". The can is very silver. The beer is organic as well. Unfortunately, this is announced on the can as "organicly" produced. Perhaps this will make this initial run of cans collectable!
All niggling little problems aside, I'm sure you all join me in wishing them well and welcoming them to the micro fraternity.

Salut Perry,

Do you know if this one will be available in Ottawa, or just in the GTA/Orangeville area?

If you have a couple extras, I could buy a couple off of you?

Perry:

Do you know for sure that this beer is a lager? I was at the brewery today and picked up a six and forgot to ask. It just says beer on the can.

Having brewed at Hockley Valley, I can assure you that the product is an ale.
Cheers!

Matthew:

Thanks for the input. What did you brew up there? Also, would you know if it is a blond ale, cream ale, or something else?

During the time I was working at Hockley Valley Brewing, it was a one brand brewery. I strongly believe that is still the case and will remain so for some time. I would have to classify their current offering as a blond ale. I cite the pale colour, low bitterness, and definite fruity note as the criteria for my opinion with regard to the classification.
