I thought you guys and gals might get a kick out of this.

I was driving along this morning listening to 680 News, and they did a spot on beer consumption where they said people are increasingly enjoying imported beers over domestics.

They offered up no stats on this, but did do a "man on the street" interview. The interviewee was in fact a woman, and she was relating how in the past she'd automatically reach for a Blue or Canadian, but now that her palate had developed and her tastes had become more refined, she enjoys the tastes of ... Heineken and Corona!

It's sad....yesterday I was at my tennis club and every week one person brings the beer and invariably the selection of 3 beers includes one or another colour Rickards (since it a micro...yeah) and yesterday the selection included Mickey's and I had to sit there and listen to people raving about how great it was...the fact is they were intrigued by the stubby wide mouth bottle but I have to bite my tongue and not offend my fellow members...these people are well to do, educated, and probably drink good wines but when it comes to beer they are victims of advertising and perceptions and haven't a clue what good beer is....my first turn to supply beer is coming soon and I think I'll bring Rochefort, Duvel and Rogue Old Crustacean....that'll send them all running home for a craft-brewed Sleemans!

The StatsCan report that this was based on can be found <a href="http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/030 ... m">here</a>.

Sadly, it shows that the largest increase in market share is in the "coolers" (aka alcopop) category. But beer still ranks well above all other alcoholic beverages, making up 81.3% of the total volume sold in Canada last year.

Too bad that most of that was really shitty beer...

We don't presently have any stock of Old Crustacean but we might be bringing some in so I'll put your name down and let you know if and when we do.
