Yesterday Smokeless Joe received the long-awaited shipment from Alley Kat in Edmonton, Alta. They've now got Alley Kat Amber, Aprikat and Full Moon Pale Ale available.

Hey Cass,
Thanks for the tip regarding the Alley Kat. Went to Smokeless Joe's today for lunch and tried all three.
Thanks again, DougShoemaker

I stopped by Joe's last night and tried all three of these. Some quick thoughts:
Amber: A decent beer with a nice colour and a good balance of nutty malt and bitter hops.
Aprikat: Wellllll... McAuslan doesn't have much to worry about.
Full Moon Pale Ale: Big winner of the three. Delcious hop aroma, and big, orangey hops in the flavour. Very similar to some of the US West Coast PAs. And according to the LCBO lab, it's only 4.1% (even though the label said 5%), so it's a good session beer!

Thought the Full Moon Pale Ale was excellent.

Is this beer handled by a distributor, and if so, is there any intention of distributing elsewhere in ON. Ottawa, for instance?
Cheers

Yes, indeed, Alley Kat is here -- though in scant supply still.
Please e-mail me directly for any information you would like on Alley Kat at
paul@greatdrinks.com.
More to come soon though - and we are working on LCBO listings.
Cheers and thanks for your support.

Paul, if you can get the Alley Kat Pale Ale into the LCBO - even for a seasonal release - I would be a very happy man.

Greg ... and others,
We are indeed submitting Full Moon and others from Alley Kat to the LCBO -- will keep you posted.
Meanwhile, we are getting more consignment program shipments from Alley Kat in soon - including hopefully some of their Olde Deuteronomy Barleywine, but it's in very short supply.
Look out for slightly broader distribution of Alley Kat beers once the next shipment comes in though. As always, if anyone out there is particularly interested in anything in particular from Alley Kat - or elsewhere - please don't hesitate to email me at
paul@greatdrinks.com.
One of the problems with Alley Kat for the LCBO, unfortunately, is the twist off cap that Alley Kat - and by far most "domestic" beers - come with. Since the bottles will, initially, sell on the shelf individually (like most of the high end imports, Belgians, etc.), the bottle must have a "tamper evident" closure. A bottle cap that is NOT twist off satisfies this. So, we are working on this tamper evident problem (no one worries about this in Alberta .. !?) so it can sold on the LCBO's shelves. Will keep you posted.
