I was surprised to see it on the shelf the other day. Snatched a couple, double quick.

I don't follow the Belgium beers too closely, but $12.95 for a 750 mL bottle strikes me as being quite a deal.
SAQ sells it for 16 dollars, to enforce the point.

I'm not huge into Belgium beers anymore, but I still think this one is worth every penny.

I snagged one of the Carolus Blues as well, and the guy at the checkout said "Deja Vu!". Apparently, whoever was before me had just bought one too.
Was temped to buy two, but I resisted...I don't really stash/cellar beers anymore.

Either do I. If I buy it, I plan to drink it soon(ish).

Same here, for the most part. During lockdown I ended up going through my cellared stuff and really noticed that very very few improved or were as good after aging.

That's so funny. I basically did the same. Sounds like it was widespread. Why do you think that is (that we all did much the same thing)? COVID by-product? Are we all the same age, lol?

While I think a Covid-cellar dive and our aging demographic on BT play a part, I think it's mainly just the evolution of the beer drinker (ie more to do with the years in the hobby not the years on our bodies, lol).

I feel like it's the same reason most of use have gone back to lower abv styles, lagers, traditional, etc. I see some of my friends newer to craft beer still chasing trends and/or ticks and have to remind myself that that was me once too. And I used to have a cellar full once too.

Part of it may be that "back in the day" there wasn't as much selection available in Ontario. Therefore, when a cellar candidate became available people were more likely to hoard because of the uncertainty of it coming back. With the explosion of craft there are now local breweries producing good to great imp/barrel aged stouts and Belgian imports are also more regularly available.

That's definitely why I scaled back my cellar a ton. Used to be if I wanted a decent big beer i couldn't just go to the LCBO and see what imperial stouts they had in stock.

I do still keep some stuff around for similar reasons. I've got a whole lot of sours hanging out down there, which I don't think are improving any but aren't getting ruined either. Plus I pretty much always have Rochefort 10 and Westmalle tripel in there too.
