The Bar Towel

I've got a new property out in a rural area now with a riding lawn mower. I've like to drink and mow. I've been looking for a good canned beer (I don't want to break bottles and usually take 3 or 4 and open them on the mower so I don't have to go back in the house). After trying many different lagers, ales and IPAs that are in cans at the LCBO or beer store, so far the best I've had is the Kensington Baldwin FishEYE Pale Ale.
It is a bit heavy in hot weather and also a bit high in ABV for a session beer to be perfect though. Less expensive would be better too.

A light IPA or ale would be my preference.

Mill Street Tankhouse is a staple of mine but not in cans so it is out.

Any suggestions?

This isn't going to help due to location and no LCBO/BS sales, but the Alt from Kilannan would fit the bill. 5.2%, light bodied but with a nice malt profile, and while $2.90 a can in single, a 24 works out to $2.65 a can.

Fuller's ESB and Wellington Arkell Best Bitter have served me well as lawnmower beer. Both are $2.60 a can.

I would say Dead Elephant, but it's even higher in abv than EyePA. Maybe Augusta Ale, since you like Kensington's other offering?

If they canned Naughty Neighbour, that would probably be the perfect choice.

Nickel Brook has also done something called Headstock Light that has turned up in some LCBOs. Comes in at 4.4%.

My understanding is that "Headstock Light" is nothing like it's namesake, and is a somewhat misleading name. Worth a try anyway I guess, but I don't think it's got any hop presence yo speak of (where the NN would fit the bill and has an ABV under 5%).

Headstock Light is a light lager, really bad move on Nickel Brooks part to have 2 beers that are so different in style named essentially the same

Exactly. I feel like, especially with a 4.9%, Naughty Neighbour is much more suited for the name "headstock light" than the lager (if you absolutely HAD to name anything *light, which is silly IMO).

I might be a little late to the party, but King's Pilsner is now in cans. Pretty good when I had it a few weeks ago.

I've had two bad (oxidized) pints of Dead Elephant in a row now and have pretty much written off Railway City for a while.

You could also get yourself something like a stainless growler and just pour bottled beer into that?

Soon you'll be able to put a plow on the front of it and crack a Welly Imperial Stout.
