Re: Avling Brewery

They have some really nice, simple, fresh-tasting beers and they're usually consistent. They only do short cans, perfect for the backyard or beach. I recommend stopping by and checking out their food retail as well...fresh veggies, great cuts of meat, prepared foods, pickles, etc. Also, their bacon ...

Re: Ontario will allow restaurants to sell takeout liquor, wine and beer

Stopped at Dark Horse Espresso at Queen East and Broadview over the weekend for a coffee, and found out they've had a Collective Arts pop-up for some time: https://collectiveartsbrewing.com/events/toronto-pop-up-shop-at-dark-horse/ Wide selection of their beer, cider and gin, and at the same price y...

Re: Ontario will allow restaurants to sell takeout liquor, wine and beer

Had a good experience at one my fave haunts today, Betty's on King East. You can get draft beer (or margaritas) in a plastic container, or a mixed six-pack of local craft at a flat rate — although Bellwoods beers are individually priced. They'll throw in a Schneider's meatstick to fulfill that gover...

Re: Willibald

Anyone tried their gin? I hear it's great, just want some confirmation as it'll probably last me a few years (as gin generally does in my household).

Re: Ontario will allow restaurants to sell takeout liquor, wine and beer

I'll just use this thread to catalogue any positive experiences I had with takeout. I'm usually relegated to the beastside, so that's where I tend to do my beer shopping. Yesterday I stopped in at Boxcar Social in Riverdale, and they essentially converted the place to a classy liquor store. They hav...

Re: Modern trends

Rorschach makes excellent, and generally very dry fruited sours, although they're a bit on the 'spensive side. Personally, I like a bit of sweetness in my sours, as long as it's balanced, and I think Bellwoods generally does a good job of it.

Re: Third Moon Brewing

These guys are getting a lot of hype, can't wait to try their stuff out.

Hazy IPAs, fruited sours and pastry stouts, eh? I think that's what was being referenced in this thread. Fortunately, I'm also into that kinda thing (don't tell anyone)!

Re: Coronavirus

On the other hand, in Ontario specifically, we have bulk buying benefits, since the LCBO is the largest retailer of alcohol in the world. This tends to drive prices down a little. I hate to be Mr. Contradiction-Face, but the LCBO is not the largest buyer and retailer of beverage alcohol in the worl...

Re: Best Traditional ON Craft Brews

Great thread! (Although I like those newfangled hazy IPAs as much as anyone...)

If we're considering Cream Ale a traditional style, Muskoka's is still my go-to. Anderson makes a good one as well.

Ontario will allow restaurants to sell takeout liquor, wine and beer

Big news, feels like it could be a game-changer (at least temporarily). Wonder if some of our favourite beer-friendly restaurants will get on board?

This is awesome, Cass. Thanks for this!

And now that this news has broke, it's going to change the retail landscape for a while: https://www.thestar.com/politics/provin ... -beer.html

Re: What're you drinking right now?

I've been really happy about the latest crop of canned Ontario pale ales and IPAs at the LC lately, particularly the New England varietals: ⋅ The newly New Englandized GLB RoboHop is amazing. ⋅ Their Karma Citra, Octopus and As Far Back... are also strong picks. ⋅ Jutsu...

Beer at Penguin Pick-Up

I stumbled onto the Penguin Pick-Up at Church and Bloor the other day, and noticed they were selling alcohol. Namely, a few Rainhard products, some wine, and precisely one type of spirit (Reid's gin). Here's their selection: https://www.penguinfresh.com/collections/beer-liquor Never heard about this...

Re: New Arrivals at LCBO & TBS

Grapefruit Sculpin is definitely delicious and crushable, but it's somewhat sugary. If you like bone-dry IPAs, or you don't like any notable sweetness in your beer, you may not like it. I'd say it's more of a summer beer, complete with one of these: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/6...
