Re: Chronicle Brewery - Bowmanville
Chronicle have opened a taproom and kitchen in downtown Oshawa. Menu is limited, a few apps, couple sandwiches and some desserts. A selection of their beers are also offered to-go at regular brewery pricing, which is a bonus. They're still in their soft launch phase, so it's only open Thurs-Sunday. ...

Re: beer (alcohol) and health
Here is the wisdom for this week. https://arstechnica.com/health/2025/03/large-study-shows-drinking-alcohol-is-good-for-your-cholesterol-levels/ And you think Trump's brain flutters like a spastic moth... Moderate drinking is good for you! Wait, alcohol at any amount is bad for you! Actually, drink...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out
I think I've become very jaded/cynical, but a lineup featuring an amber, pilsner, stout and IPA doesn't really scream bold new era to me. Granted I'm happy to see breweries returning to classic, simpler styles, however this screams coprorate buzzwords/marketing speak over substance.

Re: Non-Alcoholic Beer
Nice read, I fall into this 75% category: A 2024 report by marketing agency NIQ highlights that 75 per cent of non-alcoholic beverage consumers in Canada also purchase alcohol products — not necessarily replacing alcohol but integrating it into a more balanced lifestyle. Same. For me it's been less...

Re: beer (alcohol) and health
So apparently carbs are a big factor in blood cholesterol, and now I've gotta take lowering it seriously, so sadly my beer consumption is down to almost zero these days; at least until a get a handle on things. I figure lower ABV filtered beers will have the lowest net carbs, but some of the non-al...

Re: beer (alcohol) and health
I only seek health advice on tiktoc. I'm kind of fortunate in that I generally crave healthier foods. I don't really go out of my way to obsess over my diet. I too eat oatmeal almost daily, but it's becasue I like it and find it a comforting start to my day. Same with fruits and vegetables. I...

Re: beer (alcohol) and health
I won't make any major health claims, but I think fibre is something that lots of people would benefit from increasing in their diets. Coffee is not a high fibre item, but it has some, and makes up an unfortunately significant part of some people's total. Coffee, of course, also has its own health ...

Re: Can prices going up due to tariffs
Time to bring back bottles! Also, I swear in an article interviewing Left Field and the impact of tariffs, they said they have a Canadian supply for cans and seemed to be ok at the moment so I figure there's at least one domestic manufacturer (not that it'll be enough). Either way, it's a ripple eff...

Re: Left Field Brewery
Great news, I've never liked short cans for more sessionable/every day styles; they're best suited to higher ABV beers where a smaller serving size is reasonable. That said, for summertime quenchers that don't get poured into a glass I'm fine with the smaller portion, but I much prefer drinking stra...

Re: Best Ontario Beer to Stockpile?
Not Ontario (forgive me) but I loaded up on some St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout which is on sale for $2.45 per can until Feb 2 and Jolly Pumpkin Oro which is on clearance for $3.45 per can. I'll be curious to see what the LCBO puts on sale Feb 3. I grabbed some of this recently too, hadn't had it in a ...

Re: Breweries closing and/or restructuring and/or bought out
Craft Brasserie closing as well, LV losing two options along with Big Rock. From what I've gleaned Left Field is doing well so I wonder if their opening is a contributing factor.

Re: What're you drinking right now?
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever eaten anything with a FVA. I think I have always had that as a standalone thing after all the food is done, almost like a nightcap. I bet it would be great with a cheese plate though! That's actually how I enjoyed my Vintage Ale on New Year's Day, with a...

Re: What're you drinking right now?
In that vein I had a year old Gouden Carolus Christmas while decorating the tree, another seasonal favourite of mine. Not sure if it's officially back this season though, availability seems limited which suggests it's dwindling stock from last year. Not a whole lot of Christmas ales available this y...
