Please recommend 5 canadian ipa's...
Hey folks, I'm more less out of the beer scene these days, so I could use some help. I have a friend in California and I'd like to send him some beers from Canada that aren't available to him. He's into ipa's and pale ales for the most part, but moreso the ipa's. I'd like to send him 5 different types, 2 bottles of each.
They must be the 12 oz size bottles for my shipping container.
He's drinks Pliny's all day long so I don't want to send anything to bland.
Thanks in advance...JP.

Well, a lot of Non-Ontario beers (from Quebec and B.C.) are available south of the border. I think Red Racer is available in California. Ontario beers really don't make it down there. So if you were going to stick to Ontario
...
1. Muskoka Mad Tom
2. Flying Monkeys Smashbomb
um...
3. Maybe 2 Mad Toms
4. Oh! Amsterdam Boneshaker (500ml, though)
5. and then either a Smashbomb or a Mad Tom...
uh...anyone else?

As per above:
Smashbomb
Mad Tom
Canuck
Boneshaker
Are all good choices.
But maybe you could send a home brew as the 5th, if anyone was willing to donate/trade with you. I don't have any personally, but I'm sure there are some decently hopped home brews floating around, unless you're only looking for brewery made beers that is.

I don't always drink beer ... because sometimes my friends win and we have to go to macro-only establishments.

Here's your 12oz BC lineup:
Tree Hophead (though just under 12oz)
Phillips Hop Circle
Vancouver Island Double Decker
Granville Island Brockton IPA
Nelson Paddywhack IPA
With the Phillips hop box, you'd have 4 from one brewery:

It's certainly tougher to do in Ontario.

Ontario availability
Central City Red Racer
Dieu du Ciel Corne du Diable (if you can still find it)
Flying Monkeys Smashbomb
Muskoka Mad Tom
Tree Brewing Hop Head
Tree Brewing Double Hop Head if you can wait till it gets released.
But honestly, if the guy is drinking Pliny, everything here is going to pale in comparison. Pliny is one of the best there is on the planet.

I don't really have any other IPAs to add to this list. These are all excellent and good examples of what we have to offer. However, while I do love the IPAs that have been listed and seek them out often for my own drinking when I'm not brewing my own, this was also my first thought:
I dare say that compared to what he has been drinking and compared to the IPAs he would have on offer, everything that is on the list would be a basic pale ale in his world.cfrancis wrote:But honestly, if the guy is drinking Pliny, everything here is going to pale in comparison.
