I imagine that it's some sort of ridiculous social responsibility mandate about not selling people alcohol in such "large" quantities.

Could be wrong.

And why doesn't the LCBO carry cases of 24?

TBS should NOT have any control over the LCBO.
My guess would be space.

If space is the issue, then why can't the LCBO have a "package" price if you buy multiple sixes, similar to certain beers at TBS.

Admittedly that was a rhetorical question, just to stir the pot (Troll post!).

The big brewers want to keep the case sales at their own outlet (TBS). That's where their main source of revenue is.

Pure Corporatism.

I'm drifting way off topic here... I probably should have linked to a new post in the LCBO forum.

I suspect its more of a case that people that buy 24 packs tend to shop at TBS but that might be a chicken and egg scenario. I don't actually know the nitty gritty.

I've avoided bottles of Mad Tom since the cans came out, but I bought 2 sixes today because of bonus Air Miles points. They are in the fridge now, while I'm having a Denison's.

So apparently Mad Tom is now available in Alberta. My dad brought me back a 6-pack of bottles yesterday.

First thing I notice is how crystal clear the beer looks in the bottle. Not a good sign for an IPA.

Best before date is Nov 16 2012, so I'm assuming reasonably fresh.

Aroma is like a milder version of Bell's Two Hearted - fresh lemony citrus with light crackery malt in the background.

Taste starts out with metallic notes, completely ruins the continuation of the aroma. Finish is harsh astringency. Very typical of heavily filtered bottled IPA.

I'll be giving away the rest of this 6-pack, and likely won't finish my glass. Such a shame, as I can tell this is a very nice beer.

Good idea. Would chaos ensue? Endless arguing among cashiers?

It damn sure is. Sorry to hear the Alberta situation.

I never get any metallic notes or harsh astringency in my bottles, so it sounds like you got a bad/compromised sixer. IMO it's a first-rate US IPA that compares to the best of them. Muskoka does several things wrong (overpriced bombers, a mostly boring core lineup, showing up to notable beer festivals with nothing more than their standard brands), but Mad Tom isn't one of them.
