It's great that Whole Foods gets serious beer people. When I was in Portland a few years ago I had a great chat with the guy there. When I told him what I was looking for, he did pull one from the back and suggested a couple other rarities as well!spinrsx wrote:the beer guy at whole foods "chris" is pretty awesome. Ask if he's in when you stop in next time. He hooked me up with some free glassware and a few beers that were only kept 'in the back'

Going to Vegas on Sunday. One of the better places on the strip for beer is "The Pub" in the Monte Carlo casino.. 250 beers.. a boat load on tap.
Mandalay Bay Burger Bar is decent. Make sure you get the sampler flight. Burgers are quite good.
Freaking Frog has great selection but its off the strip and its atmosphere is pretty sad. Its a university hangout.
Gordon Biersch is great on atmosphere and quality, but off the strip and a limited selection.
I'm staying at New York New York this time around (don't ask).. there's a bar in there called "24", which is supposed to have 24 of the best American beers on tap. Anyone tried it?
So Munrets, any updates on places to drink for this thread?
I did not end up actually seeking out places to drink beer (vs. buying beer to take back to the room/bring home) so I cannot recommend in that regards. And for some reason, when I gamble I never seem to drink beer. I think the novelty of having a gal bring me drinks that are "free" always makes my mind wonder and I end up ordering mojitos, gin and tonics and white russians (the last to channel my inner Dude).
I did have one other interesting find, though: just like Cleveland's airport had the Great Lakes brewpub, connecting home through San Francisco brought me face to face with an Anchor Brewing brewpub. Sadly, at that point, I had sworn off all forms of ethanol and instead sat at my gate and rotted behind my sunglasses.
Vegas, baby, indeed.

As I was leaving the Venetian I saw an advertisement for "The Public House" at the Venetian resort with over 250 beers. I had no idea it was under my nose the entire time.

Best places I hit were "The Pub" at Monte Carlo with Ralphus and Yardhouse at the South end Outlet Mall. Yardhouse is quite convenient to the Whole Foods, which had a nice selection of stuff - here's what I managed not to drink, though I think I grabbed the Arrogant Bastard at Walgreens on a previous foray

I'm vegas right now.
think we're hitting the Monte Carlo on Monday eve.
Whole Foods is definitely worth the trip. I could have easily dropped $200 on beer. They have a decent selection from The Bruery, Lips of Faith, etc. Lots of American sours/brett beer for brettheads like me.
Chris, the manager, is incredibly nice and helpful (also loves his sours).
thought it was neat that New Belgium Fat Tire is everywhere. its a house beer at some of the casinos.

Sounds like Whole Foods have stepped it up a notch from what was available when I was there in May. Hope you stopped in at the Yardhouse while you were down in the south outlet centre.atomeyes wrote:I'm vegas right now.

i should add that Monte Carlo's "pub" is disapponiting unless you go during happy hr (2-for-1 beer). their selection is great for Vegas, but other than a few nice choices, its not mind blowing.
some of My Whole Food purchases:
Bruery Mischief
Fantome de Noel
Upright Brewing 6

i think there's only 1 Whole Foods. Its at the Town Centre mall. the outlet's one more stop south on the SDX bus route, is it not?icemachine wrote:I guess you went to a different WF, based on the selection and that the South outlet one I went to is just a couple big box stores away from Yardhouse
for funkers/sour-heads like me, the selection was very enjoyable. i'd guess that there were 25 or so different brett/sour/funky beer? maybe more? some i didn't buy due to cost (the RR galaxy IPA collab, for example). others, due to space.
but the Whole Foods' beer selection kicked the WF in Manhattan (near Central Park) by a field goal.
