$80 for a 4-pack is a great price. not that insanely expensive to give it a try, and not cheap enough for people to horde cases of it.
Considering the caliber of the beer and the price that it normally sells for at bars, that's downright cheap. Works out to ~$13 per bottle excluding the value of the glasses (which look awesome).

I was talking to John at the Twisted Kilt. I was trying to impress upon him how the base price of the Westvleteren 12 bottle should be something like $23 bucks. I think that was what Against the Grain charged for it during their launch.
You know what he says to me? "No, man. An extra $6.50 a bottle is enough."
It looks like my local might end up getting this in for slightly less than $20 a bottle.

I feel the same way. Hence why I buy a lot of beer of Peter and south of the border when I can. But at the same time the atmosphere of a night out downtown at a pub with friends or even the guy beside you at the bar is also appealing. I enjoy both but for those that can't on a regular basis the at home atmosphere is just as great if not better. But when bars can sell a Rochefort 10 downtown for $15+ people will still buy em even though a bottle is $6 off Peter when you can get a hold of him.. Which sometimes is the hardest part and from his last rant looks like we might have to pay that $15 or upwards of $50 for a W12

sure, there's a sociable aspect to drinking at a pub. there's a sociable aspect to dining out, which is why i never order anything i can make at home.
when you go to a pub (in my opinion) you drink something you can't normally buy at the LCBO.

QFT. One of the firs things a bar manager said to me the first time I came to their establishment was words to the effect of "We have some bottles that are also at the LCBO; but don't buy them from me, the mark-up isn't worth it."

You're right, Against the Grain was selling it for $25 at launch. I was there last week, and it's now $50.
