Deep golden yellow in colour, topped by a massive meringue-textured head that practically refuses to recede, it lasts so long. Once it does, you're left with thick sheets of lace clinging for dear life to the walls of your glass. It's nothing short of beautiful to look at.

It has a complex and perfume-like aroma, with easily distinguished notes of bubblegum, bakers yeast, wildflowers, lemon zest, and grapefruit. The hops are more assertive than the aroma would suggest, giving the beer a juicy citrus flavour right upfront. Underlying them, it has a gentle maltiness that gives the beer a delicate sweetness and shortbread cookie character. Bubblegum esters come through midpalate before it finishes with a grapefruit pith bitterness. There is almost no alcohol-warmth to this whatsoever.

Light to medium bodied with an abundance of soft, pillowy carbonation. It feels smooth, creamy, velvety, and light in the mouth. This is one hell of beer - full of bold flavours held in a delicate balance, and being so strong yet drinking as easy as a beer half it's strength. It's like the angels themselves fermented the essence of heaven and bottled it. Dangerous and very delicious.

This is so good, I might gift my other bottle of it to a chef-instructor of mine who appreciates good beer at the end of the school year next week. :oops:

I thought Lupulus was a once a year thing they did...
They seem to have increased production of Lupulus, it's available year-round in Quebec as far as I can tell.

Big change considering it was retired a couple of years ago.

Great news for sure, one of the best beers brewed in the country. To get this complex brew year-round would be a huge bonus in Ont.

I see that La Chouffe sales are decent there now, maybe this inspired the change? All the La Chouffe (Belgian-made) are remarkable, including the Houblon and the Mc.

you have to be careful.
i don't think those are all made from Chouffe. read the bottles of some of the and they're brewed in Quebec.

Chouffe blonde and Choufe Houblon are indeed from the parent company.

this McChouffe is different than what you buy in Quebec. the Quebec one is a spiced, brown ale.

Compared to imported 'La Chouffe' I don't like the Quebec-brewed 'Chouffe' stuff as much, those brands seem much more mainstream, watery and unchallenging.
The McChouffe, Houblon and La Chouffe are the same Belgian-made stuff as ever, and I believe sold only in 750ml which the Quebec-made Chouffe (white, rousse, whatever) I've only seen in standard 340ml bottles.

i've only bought the Quebec stuff in 750 mL bottles (at Atwater market).
