Hmmm ... going through RateBeer's Best Of list, http://www.ratebeer.com/RateBeerBest/be ... 012012.asp , unless I'm missing something, nothing in the Top 20 is a lager.
Further, most of the beers are over 8%.
Beer nerds tend to like 'em Big 'n' Bold -- although rarity also helps.
There isn't really a lot of love of for well-executed "less interesting" beers, even if they're perfectly executed to style.

This is rated in comparison to other pils. While I think it's an excellent example and I congratulate Cameron's, I personally can't say it's the best because there are so many I have yet to try.
What I do think is important is that we celebrate this. It's too easy to go all gaga over the latest trendy big noise. Not that I discourage experimentation, but there is something sublime in a perfectly executed, yet familiar beer.

A while ago I tried the 266 dark for the first time and was really impressed. We've had ths great black lager being made in the right under our nose the entire time. think ill have to go and get one of those mixed 4 pks and try these beers again.

Finally got around to trying one, though I think it's a few months old. Very light straw colour, but clear and bright. Nice bite from the noble hops and round subtle maltiness coats your tongue.
I don't know enough to differentiate between pilsners, but I can see why this has won the awards that it has.
It really is a great beer - This beer and the 266 dark makes the 4-pack worth it, IMO, and it'd be great to see this on tap at local independent pubs that aren't necessarily "craft beer" joints.
It's just good.

I really like the 266 too and find it's closer to a swartzbier than King.
Biked 60km around Caledon today, and when I got home, I had a Cameron's Cream Ale, which is also quite nice, but much different from Muskoka - this is a little more golden, and it has an almost blend of a German/English taste with the hops.
