Another Monk

Walking up Yonge near Eglinton the other day I noticed a new sign up for a place called Monk's Kitchen. It looks like it has a little while before opening.

I wonder if it's associated with either Monk's Table or Monk's Kettle (I know those two are not attached). If so, could we possibly be in for a decent beer bar in the Y&E area?

The Twisted Kilt has been a disappointment with off beers and lousy food...

My biggest disappointment with the kilt is that they almost never seem to have a cask on...I used to go there a lot when it was the bow and arrow...in my yonge and davisville days a hundred years ago.

I met the new owner shortly after it opened and he was keen to bring the 'bow' back to it's beer glory days. After a little while though, it was clear he was going to make more money from the typical sports bar swillers. As much as I would have like to seen the casks and all come back, it's hard to make a living selling expensive food an non-molbats products to people who's idea of culture is a screen with pro-sports on it. I don't like it, but I understand why it slid into hoser-bloke bar territory; it's all business...

Maybe this new place will bring in some good taps and find it's groove (I hope). Since the loss of the Blue Meenie years back, we could use a good local. No offence to the Granite!

I was at Twisted Kilt last week and they had Black Oak Pale, Muskoka Mad Tom and a cask of Cabin Fever 3 on. Still some pretty good options.

It's affiliated with the Monk's Table. It should be interesting to see if the Summerhill menu and taplist will play closer to Eglinton. There should, at least, be a bustling lunch crowd.

Also, the Twisted Kilt has been steadily improving since it reopened. They have Duvel in bottles for very little money and Delirium Tremens on tap. I'm slowly chipping away at the cask thing. For one, I think it's served too warm.

Yes this will be interesting. My only reason for not visiting Monk's Table much is that I'm not that big a fan of the Belgian stuff. If they had more local beer it would be great, since I like their food. Hopefully they will have some good local taps at the new location.

I'll give the Kilt another try. Admittedly, I haven't been in a while.
