Quick Cold Rememdies ? A little desperate...
My wife's been sick all week and I've been worried that I was going to get it. I've been ok all week, and thought I was out of the woods...but I woke up with, well, a tickle, and feeling a little run down.
It's a big weekend and I need to get better fast...
Why, desperate? Cause Cask Days is tomorrow, and I want to be able to taste the beers! Also, and more importantly, my daughter's birthday party is Sunday and we've still got lots to do...
I've been popping Cold FX and already did the Garlic tea thing...any other things that worked for you to fight off a cold?

Stay at home and do nothing but drink tons of water and tea. Eat lots of healthy food, fruits, vegetables, soups, etc. Sleep as much as possible. Hard to do, especially for me, I can't stand doing nothing (I hate TV), but it works.
Seriously, I don't understand why people go to work sick and keep trying to do their daily routine. The more energy you have for your body to fight it off, the faster it will be gone.

I'm at home watching Backyardigans with the baby...actually she's looking at the screen right now wondering where backyardigans are...
A visit to the spring rolls it is down the street for some spicy soup.
Cheers, and thanks guys, unless I'm in the hospital I'll be there tomorrow!!!

It depends on whether I'm facing a head cold or a chest/rest of body cold.
For the chest and gut, spicey asian soups are unbeatable. I stuff a big pile of napkins in my pocket (chilies make my nose run like crazy) and head to the nearest pho place and make a spectacle of myself.
For the throat and head, you need soothing. My formula is to chomp on a raw garlic clove and chase it with a snifter of brandy. The garlic opens up the pores in your mouth and throat so the brandy can go right to work.

As I told Jon Walker years ago, do a saline cleanse. You have a respiratory tract infection - so clear it out with carefully mixed salt water and the applicator of choice (Indian neti pot, traditional bulb syringe or the very effective Nasaline syringe system I've been using.)
It's a 'top-down' approach that stops sinus colds from becoming throat colds and bronchitis and so on. You are giving the infection no place to live in your body. Plus you can now taste and smell properly with your sinuses clear.
Any health store. (You can use inexpensive natural sea salt.)

What I've done so far:
Cold FX - (who knows?)
Hot and Sour soup
Garlic and Honey tea (gross, but worked last time)
A cold 911 tea from David`s tea
Saline Rinse
Salt water gargle
90 minute nap while the baby was sleeping
I`m trying to throw everything at it and rest at the same time.
I have to say I actually feel a lot better than I did this morning, especially after the sleep.
Another Saline rinse and garlic tea tonight, and hopefully just maybe I won`t be too bad for the weekend. No booze tonight, except for MAYBE a tiny something in the tea.
I wasn`t ever going to overdo at Cask Days anyway, because of the birthday party the next day, I just want to be able to taste few beers.
Hopefully I`ll be fine, but if I see any of you tomorrow, I won`t be offended if you don`t shake my hand! Cheers,

I do that as well, but not the same one pictured. There is one that is readily available at Shoppers Drug Mart, Wal Mart, etc Called Neil Med. They help get rid of colds and they also help with allergies. Highly recommended.

This what works for me a number of times - grab a slice of Pizza Pizza. Toss on a ton of hot sauce, garlic powder and Italian seasonings. I mean a ton - to the point the staff would feel they have to charge you.
Eat it. Sweat it out.

Thanks guys - don't feel 100% today, but just a bit of nasal congestion, but It's not one of those horrible colds - good enough to drink beer at noon, anyway! Hope to see lots of you there.

maybe if you're trying to induce diarrhea.Frere Ambroise wrote:This what works for me a number of times - grab a slice of Pizza Pizza. Toss on a ton of hot sauce, garlic powder and Italian seasonings. I mean a ton - to the point the staff would feel they have to charge you.

the suggestions for the saline rinse are the best ones. NeilMed Sinus Rinse is nice. you'll get a sense of smell and taste back, hopefully.
i'ld also suggest that you use a tongue scraper or brush your tongue (if you don't do so daily).
and trust me. i'm a health care professional.
