Beer of the Month Clubs

Post by lister »

A friend of mine asked me about these as a gift for someone. Given how our alcohol system works I didn't expect to find any such things. However I did find a few:

http://www.monthlyclubs.ca/MonthlyBeerClub.php
http://www.beerclub.ca/index.htm
http://www.amazingclubs.ca/beer.html

http://www.greatclubs.com/beerofthemonthclub/ (USA only?)

The beerclub.ca site lists the two beers for November, McNally and New Castle. Brutal. They're out. Anyone have any experience with monthlyclubs.ca and amazingclubs.ca? The latter has received a fair amount of negative reviews.

Greatclubs looks to be the best but has no indication about being in Ontario. (Doubt it and then there's all the hassles of shipping booze in...) I'm going to tell the friend to call anyways and see what the scoop is.

I'd probably stay away. If you;re interested, it's a good idea to ask what some past offerings were. There was a thread awhile back where one of the Canadian monthly beer clubs was offering such rare gems as Boreal Rousse.

Yeah, I'd highly doubt any of these clubs have the scale to offer anything that isn't available at LCBO. Besides, it's not allowed to warehouse beer as a private company (except if you're a bar) so they'd probably just pick off the shelf and send out.
