St. Lawrence Craft Beer Festival - is it happening?

Post by GregClow »

Does anyone know if the St. Lawrence Craft Beer Festival is taking place this year? It's usually in early/mid-June, so I'd expect that details should be available by now, but I haven't heard anything, and it's not mentioned on either the St. Lawrence Market website or the Good Beer Marketing website.

Although as I mentioned in my post about the Toronto Festival of Beer, the Fort York crew is holding a Craft Beer Festival of their own at the Distillery in late June, so maybe St. Lawrence/Good Beer were worried about the competition?

Anyone have any insight on this?

The St. lawrence Mkt. show is definitely on. Its scheduled for June 10-11-12 at the same location. The Fort York show is in August, the weekend after the Civic Holiday weekend. This year, the TFOB is only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Ottawa show is cancelled this year.

Thanks for the info, Perry. Do you know anything about the Craft Beer Festival that the TFOB is running as a "satellite event" at the Distillery District on June 25-26? As I mentioned in another thread, I didn't see this mentioned on the TFOB site, but it is listed on the Distillery website. I'm curious to know what breweries will be there, especially since it's so close (in both geography & time) to the St. Lawrence festival.

When was it ever more than these three days? :-?

I spoke with the folks at the St. Lawrence market today and they said the craft beer festival will not be held there this year.

Do any of you mircos out there know if it has been moved to another location?

Cheers

Normally, I would write this off as hearsay, especially since one brewer has already stated that the event would be taking place.

However, there is still no mention of it in the list of summer events at the St. Lawrence website, and the Good Beer Marketing site has been suspiciously unavailable for the last couple of days.

If it's true that this festival is dead, I hope that the Craft Beer Festival listed on the Distillery District website for later in June provides a decent substitute. Although it's listed as a spin-off of the Fort York Festival, but is not mentioned anywhere on the website for the Fort York Festival, making it equally suspicious... :-?

From what I understand, the event is till on, but the Front St portion is gone. Everybody (brewers and bbq) will be in the courtyard area.
That's the latest we've heard.

I hope so ...

This is the story I got. I called Thursday morning to ask if a date had been confirmed. The lady (sorry I don't remember her name) said there wasn't a date set yet. I commented that that was strange since when I called last thursday they were going to finalize the date at some meeting.

She told me to hold and when she came back she said "that event is no longer running at the market"

I hope she was wrong.

I just spoke with Guy Exley who is organizing the St. Lawrence Market show and he assured me that the show was full steam ahead.

I am brewing Chaplain's Solace Old Ale for the event, and perhaps another round of Major Misconduct too. Both will be cask conditioned and drawn via beer engine.
The Chaplain's Solace is a dark, chewy ale with hints of raisins and figs and anise combined with a touch of chocolate from the malt. Alcohol content will be 8.5%, and IBU's a modest 60.
Hope to see as many of you there as possible as this is a great event for schmoozing.
Cheers!

Perry, will the Chaplain's Solace be available at the Fort York fest as well, or is it a one-off for St. Lawrence? I'll be out of town on the June 10-12 weekend, so I'll be missing the St. Lawrence fest.

As with all my "Festival Beers", it will all depend on how well it is received and how much Jamie and I like to drink it!:) If it is well received, I will brew it again for Fort York, along with Major Misconduct and a cask Glengarry 90/- Scotch Ale. And maybe something else, time permitting.

The St. Lawrence event is officially cancelled. Looks like the St. Lawrence Market doesn't like hosting successful events.

They are looking for an alternate location but it will not be the same date. Stay tuned for details.
