This discussion led me to check the back corner of my very modest cellar, where i found a Rodenbach Grand Cru which must be from the same release (BB 30/06/06). It is completely excellent, may have mellowed slightly (a good thing for me) and has a very distinctive tobacco note now, a bit like a good bordeaux. All in all, excellent, and i think i will definitely buy a few Jacobins and try to forget about them for a decade too (after taste testing a couple fresh, of course).Wheatsheaf wrote:I disagree, but I might change my mind if I knew exactly how this beer was made. Assuming that it's filtered (almost certainly), sweetened (not sure), and pasteurized (probably), then it's comparable to Rodenbach Grand Cru which has proven itself immortal in my cellar. I still have about a case of RGC left from when it was at the LCBO (back in fall 2004--had to check the BT archives for the date) and it has been remarkably stable, still tasting about the same as the day I bought it.matt7215 wrote:i dont hink so, its filtered and back sweetened, and drinking good nowspinrsx wrote:I notice the Jacobins has a Best before of 06 02 15, anyone think this would hold up for (much) longer than that?
not one for the cellar IMO

Maybe this was figured out? Saw an upside-down shelf label at King & Spadina today (which typically means incoming soon, shelf space reserved).GregClow wrote:Bad news - I heard from James Hume, product manager of beer & cider at LCBO, that the Sorachi Ace had to be dropped from the release due to "packaging issues".
Also upside-down, Ommegang Hennepin and I think Le Trou du Diable Shawinigan Handshake.
Was in my local store picking up some Seigneuriale and asked about:Grey wrote:Maybe this was figured out? awesome! under a different product number than initially expected. Anyone know if this stuff is good to cellar?
edit: found this - Ommegang Abbey Ale and Three Philosophers can be aged for flavoring. Ommegang recommends aging Hennepin up to 3 years, Abbey and Three Philosophers up to 5 years.

Long gone from Hamilton, some in Burlington.spinrsx wrote:anyone else surprised by how much Ommegang Hennepin is still hanging around? One of the better beers at the lcbo and something that is relatively cellarable. In a great 12oz bottle format too.
But you are right about it, thats why I bought a bunch.
