Meh, as much as "Trappist beer" means anything, I don't have an issue with it... as long as the beer is good. If it blows or becomes overtly commercialized then it becomes a worry. As long as it's brewed in a monastery I don't see the problem.

Yea the Trappist orginization seems to be pretty interested in maintaining quality control rather than any kind of branding and revenue generation, so I wouldn't be too worried. Especially since according to the article the brewery is being installed under the management of the brewers from Chimay.

To me the fact that the Trappists care about quality control makes is mean a lot more than a lot of other labels. I mean that Ontario Craft Brewers seal you see on beers brewed in Ontario seems like it can be given to any brewer that pays the annual fee.

To be honest I've always hoped that either the Quebec or New Brunswick Trappist abbeys would take an interest in opening a brewery
