was just at the bay, the set does include 2 glasses for 13.99

They had some other glassware from the same manufacturer as well, tulips etc. all on sale

glass seems thin on these, but I'll give them a whirl

+1. Grabbed the last of two sets left at the Sherway Gardens location while doing some banking. Initially I had no plans of buying this glass but given the glowing reviews and the fact that you get two for ~$15 I couldn't pass it up. Also, considering their 4-piece sets run from $42 to $78 this is one of the cheaper Spiegelau products. Or at least that's how I'm rationalizing it.

spinrsx, they're thin but they're bullet-proof. I won't ask you to do it to yours, but they have videos of knocking over empty glasses on counters, and they bounce. The glass has some coating that I assumed was hype until I saw a sales rep smack two wine glasses (same thickness glass) together to act as a chime. Think "heavy toast with bottles" level of violence. Of course, they're not indestructable, but Spiegelau makes some of the best glass in the world (they joined forces with Riedel a while ago, another world-class stemware manufacturer). I realize it sounds like I'm on the take, but I'm not. I just have a few of their glasses (the IPA as well as the beer sampling set that has a pilsner, tulip and weisse glass) and they are the best glassware I've used. Worth the money at full-price, and a total steal on sale. I'm going to pick up a pair of tulips for Fred and I to use on the Edge, so that brewers don't have to give us branded glassware for the sake of drinking one beer.

There's a reason they are the predominate water glass at restaurants; and Riedel glasses are great too. I was fortunate enough to get a shit-tonne of Riedel stuff when my wife and I married, and I can attest to the fact that, fragile as they may seem, they are quite tough.

I have these http://www.luigibormioli.com/products/v ... 5/item/94/ for everyday drinking glasses. They are built like a brick shit-house and have still broken easier than any of my beer or wine glasses.

I think the only beer glass I have broken is the shitty Leffe goblet, which is cracked on the base but still usable.

Thanks for heads up. I almost pulled the trigger on ordering a few from DFH not too long ago. Picked up two sets earlier tonight. There's some pricey glassware at The Bay (though I'm sure the quality is outstanding).

How thin are these from the bay? I've read the comments below regarding the strength but the DFH ones are very fragile. I broke my first one simply by gripping to hard one night. I admit I was testing its strength but it didn't take much. Do these also have the etching in the bottom of the glass?

using my glass right now.. doesn't seem that thin after-all compared to some of my other glasses I had at home. Seemed pretty solid as I was washing it too. A little bit of a pain to clean near the bottom of the inside of the glass.

The glass is pretty neat.. it does recreate the head on each sip. It causes a mini whirlpool effect after each sip. The down side is that the beer got warm fast since my hand is in contact with the beer. (I usually use a tulip) And also this mini whirlpool happening each time I took a sip seemed to kill all of the carbonation towards the end of the beer.

Still happy with my purchase though.

I can only echo others thoughts. It does indeed feel a bit thin, comparable to some of the dollar store glasses I have. No etching on the bottom. Completely blank. They're sure to get lots of use, we'll see how they last.

A few more points, they are identical to the DFH/SN glasses, they just don't have the branding on them.
They 100% DO have a nucleation point on the inside bottom. It is not the etched word "Spiegelau" on the outside bottom, it's a small patch that is right near the top of the "S" on Spiegelau, but it's on the inside. It's maybe 2mm in diameter, but it's there. If your IPA is clear, you should see a steady stream of bubbles coming off it. It's just deceptive, because it's not a logo or big ring like most companies use, it's just a teeny little spot.

edit: typo "logo"; and now "stream"

I snagged a couple packs of these today. They're pretty thin, but I've learned to appreciate thin glassware from wine glasses. I don't know why, since it's totally impractical, but it does make them seem nicer for some reason. They're nice to drink IPAs out of, but I think I still prefer my tulips generally. They seem well suited for fresh, American IPAs or hoppy PAs, but I think I'll stick to a tulip for a Belgian IPA or an IIPA.

There was only one box left at the Eaton Center Bay when I left, but they might have had more stashed away somewhere.

Isn't the design of the bottom intended for the purpose of head creation/retention as spinrsx mentioned? why bother with the single nucleation point? It can't be all that visually beneficial if there is only the one tiny spot.

From what I remember, it isn't about visual appeal, but about supporting the head. The bottom plays little to no role until the beer is at least half empty, so the nucleation point keeps a steady release of CO2 until the ridges can create agitation. It's only a tiny spot (rather than a big ring or logo) because they don't need it to release a heap of bubbles, just a bit.

Man, I apparently learned a lot more hanging out with those glassware people than I realized...... I really should be getting paid for this ;)
