Founders All Day IPA for me. Nice little surprise from a coworker.

Sauerteig by Lighthouse Brewing - A great, easy drinking Rye Saison.
Bam Bière by Jolly Pumpkin - Year old bottle from the liquor store, and a wonderfully bone dry, brett bomb.
Too Much Coffee Man by Gigantic Brewing - Weird, just plain weird. A coffee black saison. But damn good!
Mean Old Tom by Maine Beer - Delightful, and not for ageing!
Life On Mars French Farmhouse Ale by Wild Rose - Yummy, and should be a year round release
Four by Upright Brewing - Always good
Red Racer ISA by Central City - One of the better 'session' ales out there. Almost as good as what the Brits can do

I think I keep buying this shit because I'm really just hoping that somewhere along the line, these breweries have changed up their game and bettered their beers. I'm consistently let down.TheSevenDuffs wrote:liamt07 wrote:For reasons that I still can't process, I bought a $9 bottle of Nickel Brook's Paysan Saison.

drinking that $14 barrel aged froach ale from the lcbo. The fancy opener had me working hard to get the bottle open - had to twist like crazy. Neat concept though.
The beer itself is very interesting. Probably the most scotch-y beer I've had to date. Lots of peat. Not exactly the right beer for a 35c weather day, but I figured I'd better try it before the lcbo shelves go bare. I don't think I'll buy more however.

I do the same. You have to support local, at least to some extent. We've seen great strides from some over the past year or so. Most of them will get better. That being said, I am close to being done with Nickel Brook. I support all the locals and try new releases. The only Ontario brewery I have given up on is Beau's.liamt07 wrote:I think I keep buying this shit because I'm really just hoping that somewhere along the line, these breweries have changed up their game and bettered their beers. I seriously wonder what goes through their heads when they brew and release these products that fail meet any kind of standard. Do they have a choice? Are they locked into a PO from the LCBO? Do they have the option to dump and rebrew? Is it the final product what they intended? Do they actually think it tastes good enough to warrant purchasing it over something like Sofie or Dupont (given a saison example)?TheSevenDuffs wrote:I do the same. I think we will find the answers to all of these questions right after we solve the mystery of JFK's murder.ChrisK wrote: I seriously wonder what goes through their heads when they brew and release these products that fail meet any kind of standard. I'm likely in the minority here. Yep, Nickel Brook 750's are way too expensive, but I don't have a problem with the beer. The 11,05 or whatever it was, wasn't a barley wine, but who cares. It was interesting. The saison isn't really a saison, but no one in all of Ontario brews a classic Belgian saison. Or even a terribly good interpretation. The Bastard line, Naughty Neighbor, Bufcafe, Malevolent and Immodest are all better than average-to-excellent. But tastes differ, so it's just my opinion.
