Okocim Porter @ LCBO

Post by DougShoemaker »

I just noticed this on the LCBO website. For those who haven't had the pleasure, this Baltic Porter is a real treat. It hasn't been made for sometime, but it is back. A 500 ml bottle, 8.3%, $2.40, what a great price for a great beer. I don't remember hearing anything about this coming our way?
Anyway, Happy Hunting, Cheers, Doug

Okocim Porter & Lion (Sinha) Stout. What the %$#@ is going on!?!

Still, it is difficult to find both these beers at the same stores outside of Toronto.

Joe.

For once I'm glad that my local LCBO (11 Brock St.) devotes so much of their beer shelf space to Eastern European beers - they've got 321 bottles of the Porter in stock. Hot damn! :D

I was pining for this exact beer just the other day.

It was something I drain-poured in my student days, alas, and I love porters now. Nethergate Old Growler is a nice mild session porter with some body.

I'm surprised it's back, bring it on Okocim!

Yes! Another beer that sounds really great that will never make it out to Kitchener, in spite of the large Polish community here.

Finally Toronto's Polish connection pays off at the LCBO for beer lovers! I inquired this winter about special ordering Zywiec Porter but was denied, for whatever reason.

Damn it! I was thinking Baltiika Porter. Didn't clue in until I saw the bottle--not even when I typed Okocim. Anyway, looks to be a decent baltic, and it is a new rating to boot.

Well guys you talked me in to trying this one, I would ordinarily have passed this one by. I am having my second sip as I type and this stuff is damn good! I bought eight bottles (LCBO-Applewood Plaza-Q.E.W & Dixie) on your recommendations and may have to go get more. There seemed to be a lot of stock for those who may also be nearby.

One thing about drinking this strong, dark stuff is that it doesn't seem to disappear around my 19 year old (he would be a Laker type...)

Sipping one right now (MDS - Keele and St. Clair is certainly well stocked as you indicated). Very nice! I had to wander back and take a look at the bottle about half way through, as I was thinking, "damn this is flavourful and strong" and sure enough, 8.3%. My only complaint would be that it comes off a little too strong, especially as it warms up, but that is a minor quibble, this is damn fine stuff!

For those who know more about the "Baltic Porter" style than I, do they always tend to be this strong in the alcohol? Do they share the same relationship as say Russian Imperial Stout to a normal Stout? This did seem a little sweeter than a "normal" porter as well.

Thanks for the heads up Doug.
