Lots of laughs in here folks. Especially the rant on millennials.

I used to sell beer. Now I don't.
If there's anything worse (
)than horrible millenials (and I am one myself), it's people who generalize an entire age bracket. It's a rhetorical device, sure, and the author is a millenial himself, but still: it's lazy, it's often inaccurate, it's frankly boring at this point. And -- specific to this article -- it's not something I see too often in Toronto's bar scene.

I threw my thoughts about the original story here: http://www.torontobeerblog.com/beer-new ... ms-debate/
I like age-based generalization, and the assumption that whole groups can be "figured out"

If anyone's curious, here is the (current) list of the bar referenced at the beginning that Jim complained about:

Certainly a hip list for a place which describes themselves as a "workingman’s oyster bar".

Another lol'er...midlife crisis wrote:Strong words. Grain of truth?A side tangent on Boston Lager’s “mediocrity”: fuck you if you think you’re too good for Boston Lager. Your palate isn’t “sophisticated,” it’s scorched earth from the ridiculous hop-bomb West Coast IPAs. Most of the IPAs that people love: they’re garbage.

And that's the difference between the link I posted and Chris's post. Chris has written a great article. Vinny hasn't written an article, he's ranting. It's funny, with nuggets of truth exaggerated for effect, but unlimitedly it's light on content. I laughed a lot with Vinny's piece but learned much more with Chris's piece. Cheers to both!chris_schryer wrote:I threw my thoughts about the original story here: http://www.torontobeerblog.com/beer-new ... ms-debate/

Sure is. And look at those prices! Maybe we are not so badly off after all.Cass wrote:If anyone's curious, here is the (current) list of the bar referenced at the beginning that Jim complained about:

That was great! Thanks for posting!PeenSteen wrote:http://dontdrinkbeer.com/2015/01/05/bre ... hobo-lord/
Since these brewers are criticizing human behaviour, and people comprise 100% of their market, are they planning to target a non-human market or just whining ineffectually?
Oh and complain some more if all I buy is Stone IPA in the near future & and you still think 'no one cares, at all...' Brewers can make people care with 'everyday' beers that excel on that level.

Complain all you want, Greg WE didn't create the craft beer industry or free-market capitalism with all its tricks and techniques. Somehow many of us were conditioned to leap at any chance to buy 'the special stuff' and yeah, sometimes it's fun to score the Unicorn Beers. The mentality has gotten out of control, sure. Basically, you hate consumerism and yes I agree it is a bit obnoxious - but that's not news I'm afraid.Greg Koch wrote:My biggest complaint with all of “you” (“you” being consumers) is that no one cares, at all, for beer that they can pull off the shelf every day.

I was trying to think, what would be the Ontario equivalent? Creemore? The problem there is the ownership by Molson. Creemore pre-takeover might be a rough parallel. Steamwhistle? Too bland, but maybe. I settled on Beau's Lugtread, as an example of a perfectly good beer, becoming ubiquitous, that the cognescenti love to hate.matt7215 wrote:having a Boston Lager right now, its really lovely

Honestly, this is probably unfair to Sam Adams, but our closest example is probably Mill Street.midlife crisis wrote:I was trying to think, what would be the Ontario equivalent? Creemore?
