Wellington Imperial Stout on sale

Just in case people are interested, I went to Summerhill today and the Wellington Imperial Stout was on sale for $9.20 a six-pack. It is not on sale on the website, so I am assuming that it is a store-only deal.

Um, given THAT beer would be a bargain for even three dollars more, I suggest we declare this a "Get To Know Welly Stout!" Week esp. for those who have not.

It is a fantastic beer and a fantastic value at its usual price, but that's just a killer bargain. I don't know if it's only for what stock they have on hand, but if so, there's not many left - 16, according to the LCBO site. I assume that would be 15 after my purchase, so let's see if we can clear them out.

All the wellys were on sale at the beer store today, 10.95 a six. 9.20 is an absolute bargain, I wouldn't be surprised if that was an error, seems just too good of a deal.

THis is on Sale because it means that the product has been "delisted". Summerhill use to be a all brands store but now with some major changes the LCBO is delisting about 500 brands from that store. SO if you go in now you will see "sale" signs on a lot of products....but it also means they are not coming back.

More Keiths and Blue have to fit into the fridge or floor.....or shelves according to head office!

So am I to assume that Summerhill is to no longer be an all-brands store? When it reopened in its current guise, I gathered that it was to be THE flagship store for the LCBO, so I would have assumed that it would carry everything they had, or damn close to it. It would be a shame if it was being demoted, so to speak. The delisting of 500 items is pretty extreme, and knowing the LCBO's lack of enthusiasm for beer, I would assume that a disproportionate chunk of that will be taken from the beer selection. Knowing our luck it'll mean the end of some good niche beers like the Aventinus, London Porter, and God only knows what else, not to mention the continued chopping away at the seasonal beer releases. I think it's an absolute sin that one of the beers that is being delisted is from an Ontario micro though - it's a provincial liquor agency and it should be promoting provincial products, not delisting the damn things.

I always hated the Summerhill store because they've got a quarter-million dollars' premium wine being vibrated and shaken by trains passing directly overhead. Not a very nice way to honour each winemaker's painstaking craft!

As far as DL-ing (de-listing) the beers you're worried about Steve, I agree Wellington should be represented locally, however I'm hopeful the Beer Store represents the Stout. Does it? As far as Aventinus and Fullers, those appear to be year-round sellers in most parts so maybe they're more profitable.

I don't think that it does represent the Stout, to be honest. It carries the rest of the Wellington line, but I think that the Stout is an LCBO-only product, which would make it doubly unfortunate if it is delisted.

I've always liked the aesthetic value of Summerhill, but it isn't the easiest place to get to by car, so I've always preferred Queens Quay. Besides, it has a better beer selection and Bill is a valuable asset that makes a big difference.

great points about the Welly...how could the LC not support one of our fine micros, totally appalling.

So if the IS has been delisted (is that province-wide or store specific) where does one find that elixir. Man I get upset with these damn regulations and marketers that prohibit good beer, either locally or otherwise.

Ironically, if they delisted all the different SKU's of Molson and Labatt products they would probably acheive the elimination of 500 products.

I don't believe Wellington County IS is being completely eliminated from the LC, perhaps certain stores at worst. The Iron Duke is marked as discontinued. If you're stuck for an IS fix, let me know as I drive past the brewery several times a week and stop in regularly.

Thanks Gunny...and you're close, too. Can you find it locally in the Hamilton area? I haven't sought it out seriously but the LCBO in meadowlands, at dundurn, and westdale near the east side marios (or is that considered dundas?) haven't had it. I usually don't head to the eastern part of the city but if there were a special beer out there, I would.
