Vanilla Bean Porter at Volo
I delivered a cask of Vanilla Bean Porter to Ralph at Volo yesterday. I believe he will tap it today. Its the first pilot of this one and i may have gone to far with the vanilla, but you'll be the judge(s).
I also dropped off this years version of Black Irish Plain Porter, which is back to its original recipe (4.5% alc, 45 IBU) and not the "Entire Butt" version .

In Beerum Veritas
Enjoyed possibly the first pint drawn from the tap of "Regular" Plain Porter yesterday afternoon at Volo (nothing "Regular" about it). Such amazing depth of flavour and roast with a lovely complementary bitterness. At 4.5% ABV, it packs a pile of taste without "high gravity" guilt. Perry, it must be two years since this was last available and it lived up to my anticipation in spades. I look forward to supporting you in your new endeavour and anticipate many an upcoming release both old and new.

The cask Vanilla Bean version is quite remarkable also. Rich, luxurious, decadent, all those words apply. Huge hit of vanilla on the nose with a more balanced flavour, though there's definitely a rich chocolate intensity. Is this a Heritage-brewed product too? Very unique beer. Best of luck with the new venture Perry.
I had a pint of the Vanilla Bean this afternoon, and it was fantastic! Lots of vanilla and chocolate, and an interesting nuttiness. It went down so smoothly that I regreted the fact that I didn't have time to stick around to enjoy a couple more. Hopefully, I'll be able to make another visit before the cask runs dry.
We managed to haul ass there for just after 4pm and I got two glasses, one at the start and one at the end of the evening. As the bartender pointed out early on the brew has lost some edge so I wasn't expecting a strong vanilla flavour. You can distinctly smell the vanilla but tasting it at this point is hard as a coffee flavour came about masking the vanilla taste. At least that's what my tastebuds found. I wish I got to try it on Saturday. Ah well, hopefully there will be a another one. Add that one on to my list of drinkable porters (the Nutcracker being the other one.)
