Tuborg Pilsener

This one (in the green can) is one of a group of beers I bought recently (Tiverton Bear was another, also a Molson Export quart, Bombardier Ale (superb), Fuller's London Pride, Fuller's London Porter, Liefman's Goudenband, Raftman and Cooper's Sparkling Ale). I found the Pilsener of Tuborg just okay, pils-oriented but in a restrained way. It was very fresh but seemed a little uninspired. I remember in the 70's the regular Tuborg import (which I believe is now called the Gold, also available in Ontario) was very good and had a notable yeasty character which picked it up a notch. I plan to try the Gold again soon. Certainly the Pilsener will appeal to the many people who want an import taste but are satisfied with a commercial approach, but I found it lacking as compared to, say, Pilsener Urquel. I think it was on this board that someone said recently how craft-like Urquel is and I agree, to me it really stands alone in its field. I've heard Tuborg is available on draft and look forward to trying it. Sometimes the draft version of a beer is better than the canned or bottled form.

I picked up a four pack about a month ago. It was on sale and I figured what the hell. I certainly agree with your "just okay, pils-oriented but in a restrained way" opinion of it. I just shrugged my shoulders and said "Enh." I probably wouldn't buy it again unless I wanted a pilsner and couldn't get my hands on any of the Ontario ones or Urquel. In other words the probability approaches zero.

OT: Bombardier is a favourite of mine. Too bad none of the nearby LCBO's around my apartment carry it. I either have to go down to Summerhill or Spadina & Dundas during work hours.

The Bombardier is excellent, I agree, very English but with its own particular approach.
