Better Bitters Green Apple Pilsner
Better Bitters Green Apple Pilsner
I sampled this on the Week end.......unbelievably fruit defined. If you like fruit flavored beer this is a must try....if only to experience the intensity of the green apple tastes and how they dovetail with pilsner flavors. It seems to be more intense than Unibroue Éphémère (Apple).
It won't be for everyone but it certainly is different.

It's real apple extract/concentrate they imported from Germany for this brew.......the taste is distinctly granny smith apple but it is not a phony taste...it's much like a very dry sparkling apple cider with some malt tones.
Better done than Unibroue ephimere apple IMHO.
Fruit beers aren't for everyone but a pleasant one is good on a hot summer day.

Bought a six-pack at the LCBO this weekend - I believe they are starting a larger distribution for their beer at the LCBO. I found the apple taste overwhelming, to the point where I didn't really know if was drinking a beer. It reminded me more of a cider and is very easy to drink, especially on a warm summer day, but I will not be buying this again any time soon. I would only recommend this to someone who likes beer with an intense fruit flavour (like Fruli).
Germany are really great at making packaged juices & natural flavors (not of the crappy inconsistency we get here.) Must be better technology or quality control.pootz wrote:It's real apple extract/concentrate they imported from Germany for this brew.......the taste is distinctly granny smith apple but it is not a phony taste...
I will try this!

If you've ever had a growers sparkling dry apple cider from BC...that nails the taste of this beer...it has some barely detectable cara-pils malt tones to it...but I suspect this is because they chose to go with a light pilsner as a base...the apple taste is really intense and almost puckering tart ( like a granny smith)....some will find this too intense...I'm still at a point where I don't mind this beer as a change on a hot day but I won't drink a lot of them.

Yeah, it reminded me of Growers Granny Smith cider as well. I still prefer the McAuslan Apricot wheat as my summer fruit beer....I know it's no star in the beer ranking world, but sometimes it's fun and relaxing to drink a beer with simple intensions.pootz wrote:If you've ever had a growers sparkling dry apple cider from BC...that nails the taste of this beer...
The Apricot Wheat is okay, but I am more into the Amsterdam Framboise for the type of quaffing you're talking about. It is relatively strong though.
The Ephemére Apple from Unibroue was okay, but all those Ephemére beverages seem a bit half-assed to me honestly. Nice attempt though.
