We might be seeing Rolling Rock soon

Post by SteelbackGuy »

I was at work yesterday, and one of our head office guys was in town, doing asome merch stuff, and he mentioned to me that the powers that be are working with the majors to import rolling rock.

This is completely speculative as of right now, but appatrently it is in the works.

Has anyone else heard anythying on this issue?

I doubt any of us will be super excited either way.

We should open LCBO speculation topic :). From what I know there might be even more Polish canned beers on the way for 2007. Can are easy to recycle and they want product in range of 1.7-1.9$ i/per can. Preferred size 500ml. I am part time working on possible import of Polish Baltic Porter into Ontario. Maybe 1000 bottles for starter? It would not be sold in LCBO , local restaurants only and trough me.

Anything in a can now stands a better chance of getting listed, as this is the LCBO's new direction.

I'll take new beer when I can get it, but I wish the LCBO would stop importing new eastern block lagers every two weeks.

If it work out it would be one of the Polish Baltics or Kozlaks (Dunkel Bocks) from small private micro brews . As always is all about money.

Keep me posted I'm interested...baltic porters, dunkels or bocks

No chance on the Okocim Palone though eh? :-?
Amall micro brewed dark lagers sound better though...I have a high opinion of Okocim quality.

I believe Rolling Rock is now owned by AB after buying it from Labatt (Inbev). No?

Correct. And it's no longer being brewed at the original brewery in Latrobe - AB bought the brand & recipe, but not the brewery.

Steelback, I can't remember which company holds the rights to Rolling Rock, but I was under the impression they were reluctant to push it in, in fears of competing with another one of their brands. Hopefully I am wrong, or things have changed, but you know how it works, the almighty dollar seems to win for better or (mostly) worse.

You're right.

I know there was some worry about direct competition with Heinekin, but that factor has now changed, and apparently, rolling rock is being "considered"

I was told a few years back that part of Labatt's deal with A-B to brew Bud and Bud Light was that Rolling Rock wouldn't be sold in Canada. Which makes sense, if InBev owned Rolling Rock - A-B wouldn't want Bud and Bud Light competing with a product owned by the company contract brewing them, would they? But if A-B now owns it, the story changes. I wonder if they'll just have Labatt contract brew Rolling Rock?
