Guess who is going to start up my baby at 75 Victoria Street again as a boutique brewery? I have politely declined involvement. The name starts with Steel....

If it proves anything, it shows people are not too critical of what they consider Craft Beer.

At least Lee Valley has opened a block away, so King West is not a total waste of time.

Best case scenario is that it ends with "...er", and that's not much of a best case...

Huh? What does King West have to do with the former Denison's location on Victoria?

Flakey Frankie D - posing as a boutique craft brewer? ...pinch me so I can wake up from that nightmare...the schmaltzy king of schlock meets upmarket brewing ( shades of Abbot and Costello meet Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde)..... I can see the commercials now....ya think he can get Allan Eagleson to hawk his new high gravity boutique- brewed "Harold Ballard Hefeweiss" ? ...anyone heard rumblings of a buyer asking BMG for "hefeweiss wheat malt extract syrups"?

Is it April 1st already? :-?

On the bright side, at least we'll now have a local venue at which to see the Steelback Two-Four Band on a regular basis.

BTW Frank and the band have just released a CD offering a duet of Frank with Mike Reno of Loverboy. All benefits to the Breast Cancer Society.

Here's one for the folder "In my humble opinion..."

Frank, if you're genuine about your commitment to charity, step back and let the truly talented people do the work. Charitable works are not the place for vanity projects.

Your contributions to such a worthy cause are laudable -- you gave the BCS $10,000 and that's wonderful. But fronting a band -- which is fundamentally a promotional initiative of your brewery -- to do charitable work leaves a bad taste in many mouths. Trumpeting your charitable work on your website only compounds the tastelessness.

Usually companies align their charitable work with charities that are natural fits with their market demographic. I can only think of one alignment of beer and breasts: adolescent marketing campaigns. I imagine that your ham-handed attempt at remaking the image of your fundamentally blue collar, male dominated demographic as a market segment preoccupied with healthy breasts must make most people titter. If you have a personal reason for your commitment to reducing breast cancer, please make it explicit. Otherwise both your organizations run the distinct risk of becoming a laughing-stock.

And I don't think you are going to convert any of the nice suburban ladies who generally support the pink ribbon campaigns into Steelback drinkers, if that was an unspoken part of your agenda.

Ahem....

Pinch me again...I'm locked in a nightmare where I'm confined to a bar where the only tunes in the bar are the Steelback band doing "feelings" at 120 discreet DBs and some waiter-dude with a pitch fork and goat feet keeps poking me in the ribs and forcing me to knock back a bottomless glass of "Steelback Abby triple cabbage ale"...please pinch me I want to wake up...or is this a beer nerd's hell vision...I feel like a malt loving Dante'...I have seen Prince of Darkness and he does 3 sets nightly when not brewing beer for his legion of lost souls

Sorry this is just too damn schlocky to let go..where's Mike Bullard when you really need him?

  Unc' you wordsmith!!

Really though I think you are correct that there is no equivilence between the motives of Frank and his clientel and the pink ribbon church ladies where the cause of healthy female breasts are concerned.

Steelback brewery campaign motivation for healthy breasts can be seen here:

Ya it's making my day too...here's another tribute to the D'Angelo sincere dedication to breast health:

What a saint!...Can anyone make out if he's wearing a pink ribbon? Is that the Steelback band playing inspirational healthy breast music in the background?

Pun intended, I hope...
