Just cracked one of my last 6 cellared Brick bocks...this was a 2003.
Cap was still fluffy and sticky....more subdued nose still infused with deep rich cocoa over muffin dough malting....the nobles seem to have dropped out of the nose.
The mouth feel has mellowed and rounded with the thick body translating to a more chewy malty character..rich chocolate malts, some dried fruit but primarily dark malts unleashed...this is valhalla!!!
On par or better than Weltenberger and Andecher bock....IMHO
This beer cellars well! I wish I had put down more........I wish Brick made more!

The craft side of the buisness has a motto: "We listen we brew"......get your orders in.....write them E-mail
Frankly, it was a goddam shame that they were maling a Bock that is as good as any from Germany and they could not sell out a relese....tells you something .
Now they're gun shy to release a Bock....the bubble brains in the board room associate Bock with dead sales/no customer demand....if they only knew....if Bock drinkers got out and put their ,oney where their mouth was...IF Only!!
I still have some bottles of 2002 and 2003 resting in my beer room... I normally wait until Christmas to open them up, but I may not be able to wait now! I'm glad to hear yours are still holding up well. Hopefully mine are too.
I was REALLY hoping that the bock would be one of the choices for the "We listen, we brew..." campaign. <RANT>At least I know not to waste my time calling call 7 Beer Stores to be treated like an idiot because the beer wasn't brewed even though The Beer Store website said it was in stock this year</RANT>

enjoy them...they are the best Bock ever produced in this country....and like ever will be.

Weltenberger and Andecher (doppel)bock
Kloster Andechs is a short bike ride from my cousin's place, and she doesn't drink Doppels or Bocks.
Kloster Weltenburg is horribly touristy and my uncle refuses to pass by there or drink the brand out of irritation.
Funny world!
So funny I could cry.
I feel like giving these people the lecture I used to get at the supper table if I did not eat all my roast beef in a world where so many go hungry at night.....that's how I feel as a prisoner of an out dated socialist government liquor monopoly which starves my thirst for Bocks...like the underprivileged kid living in a commie backwater nation who has to go to bed without a decent Bock or Doppel Bock, or Vienna, or Marzen, or Keller, or Zwickel, or...................
Maybe this is why our autocrat beer commissars bring us skids of 3rd world commie welfare lagers.....they feel it's in keeping with the whole underpriviledged 3rd world socialist government retail monopoly experience.
" You can have anything you want comrade......as long as it is what we want you to have...the state feels too much choice is a sign of capitalist decadence"
All this belly-aching about socialism gets tiresome. Can we maybe suggest that what we have is really a marriage of state and corporation, hence fascism?

Yeah, and while we're at it, can we drop the whiny references to "commie welfare lager"? Considering it's been over a decade since the countries in question have been under Communist rule, it's a pretty outdated insult.
Either that, or get going with the equal opportunity insults and start calling Bud & Miller "capitalist white-trash lager" or something.

Fair enough... Fascists were statist goons with a profit motive and communsists were statist goons for the sheer pleasure of it.
At any rate, we have a state-run import/retail monopoly which is incapable of servicing the small niche markets of craft beer and high end Eurpoean imports.....yet they doggegly refuse to surrender this niche to private enterprise who are willing the take the risk in a niche the Monopoly obviously doesn't want.....so is it fascism or communism which perpetrates this kind of monolithic bureaucratic fanaticism? I guess it really doesn't matter if you are the one being strangled by it.
In keeping with my very apropos soviet era metaphors, the members of this BBS routinely Escape this iron beer bottle curtain to seek the choice and freedoms of the free market in the US...satisfying their wider consumer needs which were strangled by the state liquor retail monopoly, by visiting specialty beer shops in Rochester or Buffalo to get restricted beers...as well they engage in trade ( illegally) through the mail ( thus creating the typical underground "black market" economy which always thrives in a bureaucratically repressed over regulated state)

Yes, the former Soviet satellite states are now all shining examples of liberal democracy and it's offshoot, principled capitalism....and of course they make the world's best beers
And hasn't Bud always been a white trash lager?....I like the ring of that...it's so factually correct even if it isn't politically correct.

GOOD question, why can't we all just stick to dry, humourless comments like some small-town Ontario newspaper?
BECAUSE... making fun of (sometimes not always) backward-thinking East Europeans is FUN! Even if some of us have that ethnicity, it's funny as hell. Sorry Greg!!
When it comes right down to it, the only market that could really support a private store of the type bartowelers would like to see is Toronto.
Theres a lot of those combined grocery/LCBO/TBS stores out in the country, but few of them are selling the best they can be offering, its market driven in that respect.
The basic premise of the LCBO, liquor CONTROL, is neither communist nor fascist, but reflects the societal belief that alcohol needed to be controlled. that has sort of changed since then, but that was the impetus.

Believe me, I have no problem with making fun of Eastern Europeans (or any other ethnic group) as long as it's done with some wit and satire. I've been laughing my ass off at Borat for years. High five!
I just think the "commie welfare lager" thing is deader than a very dead horse. Surely the supposedly intelligent people who hang out around here can come up with some more timely insults that aren't based on a 20 year old worldview.
GregClow wrote:I just think the "commie welfare lager" thing is deader than a very dead horse.
Well sure... when someone disses 'Slovakia', they are trashing sophisticated lagers like Golden Pheasant. And when we literally say ALL commie-welfare lagers, hmm, those would have been the halcyon days of whole-hop brewed Urquell in the Czech Republic too! Urquell in that classic form was for years protected by 'backward' socialism, and no longer exists as made by Miller-SAB.
However I think LC-exploited crap like Baltika and Slavutich still deserves an occasional kick in the shins (at least.) Abysmal beer, a direct product of its historically recent economic environment.
