Amsterdam Tilted Kilt
Amsterdam Tilted Kilt
Anybody try this seasonal yet??
I bought a dozen and its grown on me...I like it better the more I taste it.
Isn't sweet like a scotch but the malts are there, whisps of smoke ...but its the finish I really like... it has a coffee/charred grain husk flair that you usually get from a dark London porter or a Dunkeler Bock....nice dark roasty tastes in the finish.
Decent seasonal for Amsterdam.

Cant say I've tasted the spring bock but the malts in this one seem to follow the Sctch ale profile to a point then depart in a new direction in the finish...nice profile...ample mlats..not too sweet...I'd drink this if they called it a bockflip wrote:I haven't had it bottled, but I did have a pint of it at Smokeless Joe a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed it, too. I particularly liked that it wasn't too smoky.
What do you think of the malt profile? I found it to be very similar to their Spring Bock.

Bocks are a lager though - the Kilt has really nice alefruty tones to it you won't get from a lager yeast, AFAIK. I enjoyed the whole pint which to me shows this to be a well made ale. (Kingston Brew Co. is usually another story.)
A very good rec for BT'ers to try (G says the seasonals from Amsterdam often are decent.)

Well my impression was that it was so so...decent enough but it does grow on you after a few.A wrote:After we blew the keg of Great Lakes Winter Ale and Black Oak Nutcracker at Volo, I tried a pint of this. Certainly far inferior to the other two mentioned. Hard to say if it was good in its own right (did I mention the part about blowing through two kegs)

I want to try the Nutcracker again, it didn't jibe either way for me.
The Big Dog Beaujolais Porter from Neustadt was pretty darn good though.
Draught at Ralph's is amazingly fresh with this seasonal turn-around. Were you guys aware ANY pint on tap is 4 bucks on Mondays?? That's decent.
