Happy Burns Day, everyone. Mix a dram in with your beer drinking today in memory of the bard.

I don't understand dumping scotch whisky into ale - but I am trying to understand Scotch Ale, which is perhaps the Haggis of the beer world.

Haha... Perhaps you're kidding, but I don't think Steve meant to actually mix them in one drink.

I will do my part and have a dram of my latest favourite: Bowmore 10 yr old. Inexpensive, and quite tasty if you like a bit of smoke/peat.

Sadly I won't be making deep-fried mars bars this year...

...but I should definitely have a scotch. I like Ardbeg (plenty of smoke, but not much peat).

Slainte!

Just make sure your wee heavy is washing down a selection of internal organs from a selection of mammals and you'll be a'richt t'night, Jimmy.

No, that isn't what I meant, but now that you mention it...

Compass Box Cocktail
In an iced shaker, pour 1 ounce Compass Box Peat Monster (or other highly peaty malt whisky), 3 ounces of Imperial stout (eg. Tsarina Katarina) and 3 shakes of Angostura Bitters. Stir gently and serve in a chilled martini glass, garnished with a maraschino cherry and, if desired, an orange twist.

It's my own creation, and if I do say so myself, a damn fine one, at that!
