Passion Brew - Passion Fruit Beer - Heritage

Post by habfour »

Has anyone tried it yet? Saw some at the Wilson LCBO today but wasn't sure if "passion fruit concentrate" was worth a try?

I haven't tried this year's batch, but here are my notes on last year's:

Clear, bright pinkish-golden colour with a small white head. Sweet aroma of peach and passionfruit - not bad, actually. Thin, sticky body. Very sweet, candyish flavour with lots of artificial fruit. I didn’t completely hate it - but I also couldn’t imagine drinking more than the small glass that I had.

I liked the black current ale as a specialty...but "passion fruit"??? isn't this pushing the envelope between mass market fruit spritzers and actual real ale flavored with a bit of fruit? :-?

not necessarily. I had a passion fruit beer from Kona and thought it was quite good. I do have a fondness for passionfruit though.

I wrote about the 2006 release here. I noticed that I did not rush to pick up a bottle of the 2007 when I was at the government store Friday.

I agree with Greg's take on last year's version. I finished the bottle, but won't be trying this year's batch. I found it to to be one of those "tried-it-to-say-I've-had-it" beers.

it's quite fizzy and sweet. loads of passionfruit on the nose. tastes of passionfruit quite well too. that said, it's basically a fruit-flavoured alcopop market they're going for with this. for the love of god, don't anyone drink an entire bomber of this by themselves or your teeth will rot. small champagne flute alongside a piece of angelfood cake, maybe.
