I mean, yeah, there are a couple of good beers in there.

LCBO 2007 spring release?
Oh there's the list.GregClow wrote:Wow. That's... sad.Cass wrote:I think most of the beers have been identified already, but here is the official spring release from the LCBO:

I mean, yeah, there are a couple of good beers in there. But, SIX beers? Meanwhile, the latest bi-weekly Vintages release had over 100 wines?
Pathetic.
Yeah, I bet these were chosen by some yuppie pantsuit who thought the names were really cute. I mean, I have no idea how these taste but LOOK, the NAMES are fascinating, I will give her that.
So for drinking, which of the new wines do you guys like? I found this organic Barbera from Italy to be very good:
Click on number three on the list.

Hmpf. That's pathetic.
I fetched up some Orange Peel at the brewery and it was decent, but not real exciting, but still better than their mainstream line of stuff.
The Atlantic au Pineau is essentially a beer spritzer built on a grape juice frame. I enjoy the occasional Fruli, but its standard stock at the Beer Store - that's like stealing your homework from the Internet - lazy and deserving of a failing grade for the buyer.
I suppose there's some hope for the Hockley, the Trafalgar will probably be thin, thin, thin (and maple is tough to pull off), which leaves the Duchy as the grand adventure of this release. Sigh.
About the only thing I will say for this is that there looks to be a local theme, and I hope that'll help motivate our brewers to greater things.

Is it just me or do others see a pattern here with the LCBO dropping US micros that sell well?esprit wrote:There will be no Dogfish Head products at the LCBO this year and we have not pitched any for next year. Aventinus rules!
Oh, c'mon. Splurge. It's less than a fiver. Or line up somebody to share it with. Its part of the beer adventure!grub wrote:i think someone else mentioned that there are also cans available, though i don't see it listed on the LCBO website.DragonOfBlood wrote:What's the deal with the giant 1 litre Hockley Stout bottle? Their dark was originally sold in those big bottles. The only cans I've seen to date are of the Dark and the Gold.
Fruli? That's available year-round at the Beer Store.skaghevn wrote:GregClow wrote:Cass wrote:I think most of the beers have been identified already, but here is the official spring release from the LCBO:

Based on what Peter is saying, the main issue seems to be the problems that Dogfish is having meeting the demand in US.pootz wrote:Is it just me or do others see a pattern here with the LCBO dropping US micros that sell well?esprit wrote:There will be no Dogfish Head products at the LCBO this year and we have not pitched any for next year. If they can easily sell through all the beer they're making - and more - in their domestic market, where they have fewer bureaucratic hoops to jump through, can you blame them for not wanting to bother with the Ontario market?
Actually, the litre bottles of the Stout are $9.95.TerryW wrote:Oh, c'mon. Splurge. It's less than a fiver.DragonOfBlood wrote:What's the deal with the giant 1 litre Hockley Stout bottle? I wanted to try this stuff, but I'm not buying a litre of something that I might not like.
But considering all the positive notes it's been getting over on another thread, I'd say it's hardly a gamble.
Also...
For such a pattern to exist, the LCBO would have had to have a decent selection of good US micros on the shelf to drop. The only regularly available US beer of quality to get the boot in recent memory is Anchor Steam. With the recent addition of Brooklyn Lager, they're back up to a grand total of three good quality US beers on the general list (the others being Anchor Liberty and Sam Adams Lager).
And yes, I know that they've had beers from Dogfish and Rogue on the shelves in the last few years, but they've all been limited releases. So you can't really say that they were "dropped", they just sold through their planned inventory. Whether or not some of them should've been made general list items is another question entirely...

Yes - so one pays $10 for two pints - and one will possibly drink both.GregClow wrote:Actually, the litre bottles of the Stout are $9.95.TerryW wrote:Oh, c'mon. Splurge. But this is exactly the kind of beer we need to see happening in this provincial province. This Stout is on par with Rogue and those US beers, and they aren't cheap for a 650ml bomber across the border are they. (Or over 20 bucks for the exclusive imported ones you may have the luck to find at BeerBistro.) In short, support this beer.

How could this happen? What part of the *massively* successful sell-out of 60min IPA last year caused them to hesitate?esprit wrote:There are no imminent LCBO orders for any Dogfish product at this time. 60 Minute IPA was turned down for a General Listing in favour of Brooklyn Lager.
It simply makes so sense on any level. Could they be making more profit off Brooklyn? Was Dogfish not able to commit to the type of volume the LCBO was asking for?
