LCBO Fall Release

Post by downtown drinker »

A little early to talk this up too much, but I've heard a rumor that the fall release is going to feature a new pilsner from Creemore.

a pilsner in Creemore??? - given their water profile, this sounds like a new method of marketing Molson Canadian. Of all styles, this is the absolute last I see coming from here. It falls into the 'what's wrong with this picture' category. Perhaps the info is wrong.

This sounds reactionary but IMHO Creemore doesn't have to do anything new if they would just always do their Lager and UrBock really well.

Call me 100 years behind the times.

They call their lager a "Bohemian Pilsner".

I wish they'd bring back a solid (malty, not sweet) UrBock as well.

Apparently the LCBO Fall Release will not feature the following:

Achel Extra Blonde
Ayinger Celebrator
La Trappe Quadrupel
Dieu Du Ciel Aphrodisiaque (sp?)
Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout
La Fringante 750ml
Rogue Hazelnut Brown
Maredsous 10º
Victory Storm King Imperial Stout
Sierra Nevada Porter
Propeller ESB

A good blend of styles from different regions, which is why it will never happen.

But what a great release!

Most of those beer actually have been available at the LCBO at one point or another.

Never all at once, of course. But there have been seasonal releases in the past that have been at least half that good.

It's true...what the heck happened?! My recent beer-geek convert friends are shocked when I say I was once able to pick up Smuttynose Old Brown Dog and Victory HopDevil at the LC just five years ago....

Key word is 'past.'

But as BMO likes to say, It Is Possible.

God, I had to reread for the small print! Damn you!!!!

I was thinking as I was perusing the list: I can't wait, I can't wait.

6 of the beers on that list are mine...why aren't they around anymore? Some of them the LCBO rejects...others have thrown in the towel insofar as Ontario and the LCBO as this is not a place conducive to doing business for many smaller breweries as there is no consistency. I've said it many times but everyone wants into this market until they realize they may get an order every year or two and even if incredibly successful, there is no guarantee ofa re-order. Some capitalist brewers find this hard to understand and, frankly, don't care to understand and would rather direct their energies towards markets that welcome their products.

But on the big PLUS side: we've got Baltika and Slavutich, beers a western consumer can't even pronounce with their weird cyrillic names on the packaging - it's a complete joke but here comes Bolshevik Russia to Ontario! The "World of Beer" at LCBO, as if, they don't even see the world next door.

Slavutich
Baltika

I mean what is that? Our Westernized Province can't bring in hardly ANY decent American beer, but THAT?? These products looking pathetic as they do don't even belong in our mass market.

Ontario drinkers would love Propeller ESB or any other Propeller beer if they had it readily available. I am loving it here in Halifax. The back of my SUV will be loaded with their IPA, ESB and Porter when I return to Ontario in June.
