Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale

I just tried mine and the spice mixture is great and very well balanced. I'd have preferred the beer to be a little sweeter, however. Certainly it will please those who like a dryish taste in beer. I tend to like the malty side of the equation. I blended mine 2:1 Pumpkin to Iron Duke and it brought it into perfect balance for me.

When I think "pumpkin pie", I think sweet as well.

I did like the Great Lakes though. I thought the Grand River and Perry's Pumpkin were even drier (and more bitter). Both well-crafted, drinkable & interesting... just not inline with my preconceived notions.

Just wondering Gary - do you ever decide to drink a beer as it was meant to be had, or are you always concocting your own blends? From your posts here it sounds like the latter.....

Taking a shot at Gary every time is tedious, man. Sorry had to say it, because it sounds mean.

Yes, aside from the numerous postings here (Hockley Gold and GL Pumpkin are recent), I've seen him drink unaltered beer.

What's wrong with mixing anyways? A new more interesting concoction could be had or potentially a good one from two mediocre ones. If you're wanting product Z which doesn't exist or can't be easily had and products x+y=z (approximately), what's wrong with giving it a try?

Just got back from the brwery and they have 10 bottles left in their cooler - as well as their winter ale in 750ml bottles.

Not a thing...this is how Porter evolved.

Better craft/micro bars usually have a house black and tan mixture and many will mix anything you want.

You know what else is tedious? In every thread about a beer, Old Faithful has to post his "concoctions". Maybe he can start a "Gary's Wacky Concoctions" thread so I don't have to read them.

Had this at beerbistro the other week and couldn't believe how well it went down. I have't tried any of the other local pumpkin beers, but if they are comparable or better, I better get my hands on some.

Or, you know, you could stop reading mine just as easily.
As for me not reading his posts, considering he posts in practically every thread on the forum that would be kind of difficult to do don't you think?
Also, I never said I didn't want to read his posts nor did I say I had any problems with Gary, all I said is it would be nice if I could read at least a few threads without running into "I mixed 1/4 Steamwhistle with 2/4 Hoogarden and 1/4 Guinness" all the time, it's getting old. So I suggested he start his own thread where he can post his concoctions to his heart's content, I can avoid that thread and then everybody is happy.

But I guess that's too "negative" for this forum.
