You don't need to go to Belgium for that one:
http://ebenezerspub.net/

And it's even more feasible with R&R!

I'd probably put Westy 12 at the top as well (thanks to MDS for that one). Some people say the St. Bernardus is similar, but I thought they were quite different. And with a large supply, you could make a fortune on ebay!

I don't have a serious quest right now...

I would really enjoy trying the 8 or the 12. Probably a great lawn-mower beer.
Had a 2004 bottle of the 8 last year, also had fresh bottles of Rochefort 8 and 10 to compare at the same time. The Westy was good, but I'd still take either Rochefort over it, maybe even St Bernardus Abt 12 too.
I would have to agree on the marginal superiority of Rochefort's 10. In my head to head tasting I put Rochefort 10 on top, Westvleteren 12 a close 2nd and St. Bernardus 12 a distant 3rd. Although I imagine that different dates of bottling and aging could have an impact on this rating.

For me, it would have to be 96-97 Boon Oude Gueuze. That beer is the reason I found The Bar Towel. In my first post I was trying to locate more, since I was down to my last bottle. I still have that bottle, and it kills me to not drink it. I picked some up (current batch) at BOTW about 2 years ago, and while it was good, it wasn't quite the same as the 96-97.

Excellent pick! This used to be my go to beer when I lived in Yorkshire, and is absolutely fantastic on cask. I've never had it in a bottle though, and I'd be curious to see how it holds up. Anyone visiting England should seek out this 4 time champion beer of Britain (and also bring back a keg for me).

I've had it in bottles and it does hold up well. I guess it's the bitterness that helps it stay alive. I'm pretty sure I've seen it over in a liquor store somewhere in Boston and the surrounding are. I'm going to get a friend to bring some over from the UK in June :)

We have shipments of Rochefort 8 & 10 and St. Bernardus Tripel coming in about a month's time and we're taking reservations as we expect they'll go quickly.

At this point, pricing cannot be finalized yet, but it will be posted promptly. We apologize for not having this information on our site, but we have had some major computer issues. We hope to revamp and update our site soon.

Thanks,
Please put me on your mailing list. I've emailed at least 3 times requesting private order information but you never get back to me - what gives? Okay, I lied, once you replied and asked for my order and contact information and then I didn't hear from you again.

I incorrectly indicated we were bringing in St. Bernardus Tripel...actually, we have stock of this...it's St. Bernardus ABt 12 which is out and coming in so we're taking reservations for this.

Dear friend at R & R,

I would like a case of 'regular' Pannepot!

I imagine this will illicit negative reactions and eye rolling emoticons, but for reasons unknown I just really really want to try Sam Adams Utopias.

Interesting proposal... although, we think that importing Aardmonnik sometime in late fall would be a more interesting way to profile this brewery.

Thanks,

Interestingly, I first tried rochefort 10 by 'accident'. I was at pub st alexandre in vieux quebec and i asked for abbaye des rocs brune but they were out so i 'settled' for a rochefort 10. It still stands as the best singular beer experience thus far. rochefort 10 is truly transcendent.

As far as everyday available in Ontario, Trois Pistoles (so long as it remains available, I picked up a 2-4 today) is the king..
